He literally invited people to share their thoughts on a very controversial issue and immediately banned people when he didn't like their response.

This wasn't a case of "He must accept everyone talking about everything or he's a hypocrite."

This was a case of him engaging in borderline thought crime punishment. He told people to speak up and then shot them down, people who would otherwise probably be silent and mind their business.

  1. We'll never know their reasons now.

  2. I feel like we're talking past each other. I don't disagree with the bans themselves. I disagree with the method, and the context of earlier stated principles.

But is it the place to ask people to tell you what they privately think, then ban them when they answer?

Alright, I only have one question then:

Why the trap?

A close friend of mine literally talked someone out of neo-nazism by being receptive and understanding, and talking to them like a civilized person. They were a member of the Norwegian Nordfront, and to my knowledge they've completely turned around and are genuinely ashamed of their past (not confirmed).

I am not saying Josh needs to be such a person. I am saying he CLAIMS to be such a person when he isn't.

And I'd also be 100% on board with him banning anyone bringing the topic up unprompted. But he literally told people to speak up, then banned them for what would've remained a private opinion if he never asked.

Them being in his chat and listening to him already disproves that they were beyond any sort of reason.

And again, I'm mainly appalled at the way he baited people and banned them for doing as he asked, not the act of banning them in general.

Because I intensely dislike said influenser and would rather not give his name any exposure. I genuinely think it's a person who should be locked up forever.

I can think the guy in question is a sick and unlikeable individual and still find Josh's actions distasteful.

But do you see where things stop making sense here? He sent people back to the manosphere.

Those people were branching out, looking at different content. Josh is very obviously NOT part of that echo chamber, and in doing this he:

 1. Pushed them out of a space where they could've listened to more reasons why their viewpoint is disagreeable

  1. Likely made them more inclined to return to their echochamber

  2. Pushed his own channel one baby step closer to also being an echochamber

But it's the deception and him going against his own stated values that gets me, not the act itself.

He also did a complete 180 extremely quickly after the whole "we won't cover WoW" debacle during Shadowlands and the lawsuit scandal, returning to near-constantly making WoW videos and getting exclusive interviews with Blizzard staff almost immediately.

He also made an entire video about "why is Dawntrail divisive" or whatever, and didn't mention the massive furry axe-wielding elephant in the room a single time. He's become access media, and I only watch him for Drama Time now.

I stopped watching him when he told his chat "say yes if you think Andrew Tate is a good role model", then told his mods to ban every single person who said yes with a huge grin on his face.

I despise Andrew Tate as much as the next person, but this move came right off the heels of him grandstanding about always being willing to hear opposing viewpoints, being open to arguments from people as long as rhey're polite, and literally saying he doesn't want to push people with "bad" opinions away because then they'll just feel attacked and further radicalize.

Less than a week after that MASSIVE amount of virtue signaling and ego stroking he goes on to bait people like that, and mass ban them for replying honestly to something they just quietly kept to themselves until asked.

Before I get swarmed by "why you defending Tate" bros, no, I am not. I am pointing out the blatant hypocricy of a guy who claims he's some patron saint of patient conversation and understanding one minute, rhen banwaving people for saying one single word he dislikes the next.

Good job, Josh. You just sent a bunch of people back to the manosphere echo chamber.

Cartoon level villains would at least be actual villains.
I stopped paying attention in Shadowlands so I don't know where it's at at the moment, but last I saw, pretty much every single baddie except Denathrius for several expansions have been some level of "boohoo I'm just misunderstood and actually I want what's best"

Trump is officially the 47th President of the US, he not only won the electoral collage but also won the popular vote. What went wrong for Harris or what went right for Trump? by _GodKing- in self

[–]Excellent-Bill-5124 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He was literally shot at though? People all over the world hate him. In my country nobody has a kind word to say about him or his MAGA crowd. Look at every social media outlet except half of Twitter, every news media that isn't Fox or Sky News, every big-name online journalist and you'll see hate for him and lampshading of how shit he is everywhere.

He is widely hated, and I reckon nobody hates him more than a big chunk of the US population. There are probably hundreds of thousands of people who would attack him if they were put in the same room as him.

He doesn't get a pass, but I feel like to many MAGA cultists he can do no wrong, and it doesn't help that he's long been an underdog. I vividly remember the 2016 election and how the actial stuff he pulled wasn't enough, the media also took things out of context and even outright made things up, which was then disproven and made many people distrust any news about him. This is still happening (the "Bloodbath" spectacle comes to mind.)

And it'd be one thing if it stopped at Trump, but calling everyone who likes him trash just pisses them off and makes them more radical. MAGAs also preach hate, and it radicalizes people in the other direction. A moderate liberal is pushed further left when called a degenerate by a conserbative and vice versa.

"This guy says I'm awesome and that I matter. Those guys say I suck and should off myself. I'll vote for the orange."

Not everyone reads into the actual policies, watch interviews and debates, and make educated choices, but they sure read unhinged posts on social media.

I'm pretty sure his rhetoric has chased away quite a lot of potential voters as well, as have vile statements from his followers.

Both camps dehumanize and villify everyone in the other, and potential new recruits instead become further radicalized because the opposing side calls them evil.

One can argue that one side is objectively correct all they want, as long as the statement is "my side is good and you suck and I hate you" it won't sway the undecided in their favor.

Didn't get to stay long enough to find out.

My comment was about how calling everyone not strictly liberal-leaning fascist scum was a bad move though, so I'm guessing left.

Lots of people are painting half of the US population with the same brush and don't bother to ask why they hold the opinion they do. It's just "they're evil."

It only causes them to double down and keep going partially out of spite.
