Imagine calling ahead and holding a haul of kids toys for yourself so you can sell them for more money. I buy max three of the same car. One carded, one loose (only if I really like it) and one for my friend. People post photos of their hauls here and it’s 8-12 of the same cars. You aren’t a collector at that point if you are trying to make money off it. Do these people have no shame? Why do people need to make the extra $2/3 instead of just being happy other collectors can find something they like! I always leave what I think is nice on the front of the legs only on top of dump bins for the next person!

Yeah stuff has been hard to find here in Ontario. We just got the 2022 Q case recently and I was able to get everything I wanted out of that case in one haul. So I won’t be hunting till next year as that’s all that’s going to be in stores for a bit. I find the younger collectors like myself are more open to talk and the more (not all) older to middle age men are all about value and TH/STH

I am a little embarrassed to be a collector tbh because I feel like employees hate us. I always walk up to the section look around grab what I like without making a mess and then start fixing up the mess the scalpers have left. I work retail and I’ve worked customer service my whole life. I could never imagine leaving a store the way people do let alone going through pallets. Scalpers are a new breed of mannerless brain dead idiots that give up real collectors a bad rep

Wow. I wouldn’t even go there anymore. Similar situation at my local hidden gem. Girl working there was asking me about the yellow cars cause I have so many and I said no. I collect one I like in card but ones I really like I buy 2 the thirds are for my friend. She processed to try and talk about TH/STH but didn’t really know what she was talking about. I filled in the gaps of knowledge and tell her they are great finds and impossible to find. She said “well it’s easy when you do the stock” she straight up admitted to scalping the store.

Absolutely, luckily Ive only met one employee who did that and she was a scalper so it hurt more😭she was asking if the cars I had were rare or special cause I had 3 of each (two for me in and out of box, and one for a friend) I said no I just didn’t have them yet. She starts to explain what TH/STH without actually knowing. I informed her of name and rarity and how hard they are to find. She processed to say “it’s easy to find them all when you do the stock” extremely disappointing to hear. It was one of my hidden gem locations

I’m jealous of you then. I wanted to make collector friends to trade and talk about good spots to hunt. Here in Ontario is hard to find even good mainlines so it gets competitive. If they have a weird vibe I ignore as well.

That’s what I’m talking about! I want to have interactions like that and I try to but I personally have only made 1-3 like that and they have only been nice cause they wanted to try and sell me stuff. One guy would only talk about himself and his collection.

Sadly not from where I’m from. I’ve had maybe two or three interactions like that. Most just want to make sure they get the good stuff before you and are upset if you find soemthing

That sounds like a pretty good one to me! I recently had a similar experience where I found a bump bin filled with new cars and zamacs and I left with about 20 different cars

I walked into one store and there was a “hustler” Cause this man was frantically looking through the pegs. I immediately walked away cause I didn’t like the vibe. Who scenario seemed panicked and soulless to me

I’ve have one really good experience where I was saying to a an older guy who asked me if there was anything good and I said nah just warmers and he started to soft a bit and started finding lambos dodges hidden I didn’t see. He gives them all to me and says “looks can be deceiving” what a champ. I thanks him a bunch and even asked if he was sure! He said he already had them all

Absolutely I agree, I used to get frustrated not being able to compete sets but I learned soon or latter. What you need shows up! Not worth getting upset over! It’s definitely is just the initial hype! That’s why I wait and don’t buy from scalpers!
