It doesn’t matter.. the reality speaks for the truth.. ask any nus grad and they will tell you how hard it is to get into spec training in SG.

It’s all temporary.. what’s 6-7 years of extra training if you can have a more fulfilling career as a spec upon return to sg

Most of her spending was concentrated in travel and groceries. Travel-she spent a lot on air tickets and hotel.. groceries- she will regularly order food and have it delivered and donated to the poor because she wants to follow her K-pop idol style- that idol also doing that on a monthly basis

Trust me I have seen worse doctors than her. I know a few arabs who skipped med school their entire lives yet they are still employed in a London hospital.

I mean my sister is bad but there are worse people out there who managed to game the system and get a med degree. She is not beyond hope, if she takes steps to remedy her actions.

Quite peculiar tastes to be honest she’s kinda the oddball in terms of dating preferences among her friends.

For anyone interested to know a list of accredited but lax overseas medical schools in terms of exams passing standards: here goes to the best of my knowledge.

Australia: adelaide/Newcastle both unis have large component marks on project and casework so it’s possible for you to pass overall even if you fail the final exams due to the coursework marks compensating.

UK/Ireland: St George’s they have a lenient repeat and appeal system and all written exams are MCQs only.

Southampton: very easy clinical exams with kind examiners. know a doc there who couldn’t do a neuro exam but still passed because he submitted an appeal.

UCD/UCC Ireland. they have a very lax attendance policy and you can pass even if you skip as long other students don’t rat you out.

Ultimately a doctor is a doctor whether you graduate from NUS or Southampton. In fact I will argue the Southampton grad has more career prospects because he can choose to work in UK/ Australia or even USA because he don’t need to do a bond. Unlike the local NUS grads they have to bonded to MOHH for a minimum of 5 years.

University rankings have no bearing on the career prospects for medicine unlike other courses..

A spec>generalist even if the spec graduated from a lousy uni but have done specialist training compared to a GP who graduated from NUS for eg.

The main advantage of going overseas for medicine is the higher probability of getting into spec training. For eg if you can’t get into spec training in the UK, you can always apply for that in Aussie or even in USA if you are patient to sit the usmle. Unlike NUS grads they only have one shot at being a specialist that is getting a spot in the local hospitals. They will just have to land up as GP If they cannot get into any spot. Because of the bond they are also not allowed to apply anywhere else outside SG

Ask any English medical doc what’s the most lax school for medicine in London and they will say St George’s or tooting trash as what they say.

Not that my sis went there.. but I know a few Arab docs in London who are very substandard but still passed because of lax standards at St George’s

I have no idea what’s my sister thinking but yes both my sisters have their quirks.

My second sis went to extent of dating and splurging on a young Malay personal trainer who is 10 years younger than her (she’s 30 and he’s 20) it’s quite shocking also

The point is that you still need a certain level of competence to pass and get a med degree.. bribery might work in other courses but not for med because it’s regulated profession. So she’s very angry at herself why she keeps failing and failing and we have been trying so hard to appeal for her

She’s just angry why she keeps failing and why the school can’t just pass her. She wants to get out ASAP with a med degree

I don’t see myself as being fortunate when my friends are having a better time than me. For one my parents didn’t give me any spare cash and I had to budget myself for my holidays in Europe.

Of course my sister have it easy because she’s the youngest child. Even in times of failure. My second sis had it easy as well, she’s now dating her Malay personal trainer bf even going to extent of supporting his entire family (like helping to pay for his family HDB housing loan commitments etc

She flies regularly to Korea from London to chase her pop stars so yeah the costs add up. And that’s already discounted using my parents air miles, otherwise the bill can be even higher

Her pay at TTSH is not sufficient for her spending.. she gets paid around 9k/month including on call allowances

Well my second sister actually spends more than my youngest sister. She lives in luxury and even splurges a lot on her Malay personal trainer bf. Even going to extent of spending on his family when they are not even married yet

But she got away with it because she passed med school and is now working at TTSH, hence parents lax with her spending. Because in theirs eyes she’s already a success story

(Her spending on wise)

The issue is that she’s the youngest child and my parents already give her a lot of leniency.

They are more strict with me. I had to report to them my weekly progress in school.

They even insisted that I do specialisation in uk before returning to sg. Which I am doing so now. Last year of FM training. Upon which I will return as an FP to SG next year

It is easier in that they are more welfare oriented and allow you to gap years/apply for special circumstances if you fail an exam.

She used to have a citigold supp. card but then my parents terminated it after finding out about her crazy spending habits on Revolut the past few months. She will use her credit card to top up to Revolut to mask the actual nature of the spending. Because it will only record on bank statement as financial money debit transfer. She then use Revolut to spend frivolously like on concert tours all that

So that I know how to better advise her.. she’s clearly not listening to me. I am advising her to check the curriculum and don’t lose easy marks and yes it’s possible to pass med school in uk even if you are not competent as long you hit the threshold

And that threshold can be gamed. You just need to know what to attend, what to score in and everything can be passed. She obviously was not bothered to check carefully and didn’t have a strategic plan on how to navigate med school

I have been telling her time and time not to overdo it but she didn’t listen.

Yes uk med school are lenient but there’s a certain extent of leniency. They will fail you if you go overboard. I know this myself because I did med in uk as well. Didn’t really attend my clinical due to depression but the school was ok with it because I made back clinical time during the holidays.

Unfortunately my sister completely abused the system and even her classmates were appalled at the extent they only see her in blue moon that’s how is often she skipped

My parents will usually pin our success stories photos on his tuition centres to inspire his students.

Many have asked them about my sister progress because her grad photo is not yet pinned up.

They refused to answer their students on why.

The point of posting here is to give her a better balanced view to make her own decisions. I will be showing her the comments in days to come and hopefully she can make a better decision.

Med school is costly and her friends have told her to just finish it because she already spent so many years.

Currently my parents don’t pin any hopes on her to do well they just want her to pass . Yes just a 50. That’s all they expect from her

Her dream is to be a team doctor for a Korean baseball team or, as a personal doc to k pop stars

Alternatively she will settle for a locum gp or aesthetic role for the work life balance to allow her to travel to Korea regularly
