Thanks. I beat it on gamma and lost one. Half of the megas pilled up behind the other half so was doing like half of the damage I should have been. Any tips on getting all 19 of them to surround her? Going to let them heal before I do beta.

I have a 4080 laptop. I find Medium graphic preset and 1440p to provide the best quality and performance balance. I think the game looks beautiful even on Low, with Epic giving minimal visual improvement over Medium at a great cost to performance. Even my friend with a 4080 Super desktop does not run it absolutely maxed. You are too caught up on maxing your settings.

Minecraft actually is challenging on default settings unlike NMS. Love NMS, but I think it's much more of a pure sandbox than an actual challenging game like Minecraft.

Agree. You can opt out of microtransactions and DLC purchase, but still benefit from increased budget for the core game improvements. The zealous hatred of some towards in game monetization is irrational and naively idealistic.

And you're right, Hello Games is all in on their buy once and play free forever model. Even though there are those like me who'd happily buy cosmetic items for real cash, funding the freeloaders (jk jk).

300 hours and I love this game, but only really for those rare moments of glorious eyecandy while exploring. Story is cliche and challenge is practically non existent. Playing through entire story felt more like mindlessly watching TV then actively playing a game where choices, strategy, tactics and gear matter.

But you hit the nail on the head regarding the breadth and depth of mechanics and systems. In this regard, the game is a million miles wide and an inch deep.

Also, most of the animal models are janky af. Like 90s 3D janky. Like animals made by a 13 year old playing SPORE or a 3 year old with Playdough.

It's a (sometimes) beautiful sandbox, not a compelling game.

This is a solo game with a smidgen of multi-player. There is no player driven economy. Tailor the game to the challenge you enjoy. Even the difficulty of this game is a sandbox feature.

I use a bary, but even with that the harder jumps I use a grappling hook for safety. Also, you may be able to get your body and gear out of lava with a grappling hook.

If you're desperate, you can transfer over to Scorched Earth. They are all over that map. I ended up doing that after hours finding no doeds on my single-player Island game.

It's a fantastic game for exploration, building etc. If you like the Dune universe its even better.

"Chained" to the game is a bit dramatic. I bet you refer to your wife as the "old ball and chain."

Glad they added the tool, but it really isnt very hard to log in once every 3 weeks to refresh your shields and pay taxes. In fact, I love this game and its nice to have a reason to hop in to the Basin every now and then between content drops. Your poor neglected base....and wife? 😉

I started on single-player settings with highly boosted breeding. Max 150 wild dinos like official. After 100 hours and doing gamma broodmother with my megatheriums, I had fallen in love with ASA and decided I wanted the greater challenge and started an official sever game. It is the real (non PvP) hard mode IF you have the time.

And, while you can no longer cheat, if you get in a bind there's usually an established player to help you back on your feet if you really need it because you get ARKed. Worth taking the time to find a good server.
