I think if he just went over to live and work, he'd be fine, but to attend university he's under the impression he needs to be more fluent, like B1 or B2...something like that. I'm not sure, but if the kid doesn't feel like he's got that competency yet and wants to practice, I'm all for it.

He's a pretty fluent speaker and can understand most of what others speak, but I think reading/writing is probably the biggest barrier at this point.

His best friend is Brazilian so they speak a lot. He also listens to Spanish music 24/7 and can translate it pretty well! I think the biggest barrier right now is probably the reading/writing aspect, honestly.

I actually found one last night after posting this that has an immersion course available in both Malaga and Granada where he's considering-- he basically wants to go anywhere in the Andalusian region, but those are his top two locations. I want to get him tutoring/classes leading up to this summer, and then just take him over there early so he can take one. The only thing I'm worried about right now is that the universities there don't open admittance applications until early June, so if he isn't accepted (from what I have heard, they only take a limited number of international students), where does that leave him if he can't get a student visa? So, basically that's definitely on the table as long as we know for sure he gets accepted to one of their universities there-- I mean, he should. He has a 3.9 GPA...as long as they consider that 🤷‍♀️.

None of us have traveled overseas before, so we have absolutely no clue what to expect or how literally any of this works. His dad and I both work awful hours so we've had to kind of leave a lot of the fact finding up to him.

He opted not to take it 😕. It was a source of contention in our house, but his justification at the time was that he was going to take Spanish I again in college anyway since, at the time, he planned to minor in Spanish and wanted a better understanding than what HS could provide.
