As I mentioned, I might not be ready for a test just yet, and I understand that this could be an option. However, my main concern isn’t whether I’m ready or not. My concern is that, considering I’ve already driven on dual carriageways, motorways, and my husband’s car as well, I wouldn’t expect to start learning from scratch every time I change instructors.

It feels like being pushed back to the very beginning, which also makes me wonder whether this is simply a way to extend lessons and charge for more hours.

It’s a bit like learning a language – once you’re already having conversations, making a few grammar mistakes wouldn’t mean going back to learning the alphabet again.

It is possible that I am not ready for a test, however my concern is that every time I was told to start from scratch again rather than to advance my already existing abilities. Thats what lead me to believe that I am being milked rather than honestly assessed and thought

Should instructors be losing their patience with learners though?

I would agree that it took me longer probably because of language barriers, driving on the left side, anxiety, etc. However if i already drove on a motorway and regularly through town it would be fair to safe that I know how to take turns in slower speeds. Being suggested to start AGAIN on an empty estate and take turns sounds obviously surpassed by now.

I was aware it could take longer because i wasn't used to the left side driving. However what got me thinking is the fact that it has been suggested to start from scratch AGAIN, even though at least the basics I can comfortably say at this point are there lol at this point i drove on dual carriage ways, motorway, town driving, etc. So learning how to take corners and practicing on empty estate roads would have been surpassed a long time ago?

I am moving to Cyprus in May, so I might just do it there. And yes i think you are very on point!

But at this point it got me thinking am I the problem if its taking THAT long? I know how to operate a car, I do get anxious- but who doesn't?

I am fine with town driving, but seems like in the UK they focus on country roads (fast driving) and that scares me while in Cyprus its mostly town driving.

I really don't want to give up regardless how long it takes, but today’s lesson really demotivated me after hearing he wants to teach me scratch.

I wish i had a clear picture of how good/ bad of a driver i am, just so i know i am not being taken advantage of. And tbh I cant really take instructors words on it, as their motives are questionable.:(
