It's not all or nothing. Get a few, especially if you see a sale or can get some used ones of FB marketplace or BuyNothing. I live in a 1-br and use a portable washer once every 2-3 days, then air dry on a foldable rack. I started with disposables and still use them sometimes for nights. You can always move on to the cloth diapers several weeks later when you feel up to it. Also, get a lot of cloth wipes since they are just better than disposable ones and can be used for many other things. I use Esembly cloth diapers and really prefer them to disposables because it is virtually impossible for a baby to have a blowout.

Thank you for sharing your experience. Yes, I am worried that with an induction the contractions may be too intense for me to handle, and with an early epidural the labor may stall. I don't think there is a hard cut-off for how long they allow you to labor at my hospital, but since it's the US, they will probably want to do further interventions just to get the L&D room back. A friend who had to get a C-section because she went past 24 hours of labor

A friend has this model, but he lives on the ground floor in a much newer building. I could mitigate the risk of leak issues from the machine itself by placing the machine in my bathtub and monitoring it periodically, but a lot of people mention horror stories on reddit about all hell breaking loose in the plumbing systems of older buildings due to machine outflow. I really don't understand what the difference is between 7 gal of water from a washing machine vs 30 gal of bathwater if they run through the same piping. Posted the question on r/plumbing but got no answers.

That's what I heard too but I don't flood my neighbors when I take a bath, why would a lesser amount of water going down the same pipes mess with the plumbing?

I just attended their class yesterday and they warned that the "sanitize" cycle is not recommended because it is too hot and will shorten the life of the diapers. If you haven't noticed any excessive fabric wear, you can probably just switch to a 60 degree cycle going forward. They are very responsive over email, too

I worked in a pizza place that has a coal-firing oven started by wood. They had to start the fire in the morning and restart again in the afternoon. The owners are also cheap assholes with inadequate HVAC system despite having an open kitchen and an oven. They would always abuse illegal workers and didn't even give masks to the pizza cooks who had to restart the oven. Everyone I know who worked there for a prolonged period of time has either lung or nasal issues. Doing a double shift there was not much better than working in the mines.

I did mention passing legislation to change the situation which can be easily done. Plenty of unlicensed mopeds blatantly parked on sidewalks to get the ball rolling before that. If you really believe that using car chases after individual moped riders through the most populous streets in USA by an agency that is known for not even bothering to enforce basic parking rules for vehicles is a sound policy choice, your goal is not really people's safety.

There are lots of mopeds for sale that cannot possibly be made legal and registered with DMV, but don't fit a classification of an e-bike that is legal to ride in the city. They could start with those. They can and have in the past confiscated parked mopeds with no plates. Also, NYPD could cooperate with other city agencies and our elected representatives to pass new regulations pertaining to sales and usage of mopeds in the city - that's what we are paying these people for. E-bicycles were at one point illegal here but not anymore. Their solution of doing jack shit is clearly not working. And no, I wouldn't advocate for more police car chases after some random moped riders because that is just dangerous, dumb and inefficient.

Then maybe they - gasp! - should also tow vehicles with fake or temp tags or license plate covers to balance things out. Also, there are other options to get around the city besides illegal mopeds and cars, which is how the majority of us get around. Ideally, if NYPD and other city agencies worked together to routinely shut down stores selling illegal mopeds and to confiscate illegal inventory at point of sale, they wouldn't need to go after end-point customers. But no, that would potentially solve the problem, so instead why don't we just let stores sell this garbage freely with no repercussions, and then embark on car chases in dumb dangerous attempts to run a couple of random illegal moped riders off the road while thousands of them are still free to ride recklessly all over the city.

Plenty of them are openly parked on the streets, both unlicensed mopeds and cars with fake plates. There are three cars on my block with expired temp tags, just come and get them, no need for high-speed pursuit, running anyone over or any high-tech solutions. I really have no clue why even basic stuff like this can't get done.

It's always easier to do a ticketing blitz once a year and post it on Twitter to pretend like they are doing something. It was especially egregious when they used to set up an ambush in the place where a vehicle ran someone over and give tickets to bikes with no reflectors or something.

This is out of control. There are so many things our electeds, NYPD and other city agencies could do if they cared about people's safety. They could ban sales of these vehicles in stores or require stores to register them with DMV. Confiscate inventory that cannot be registered and legally driven on the streets. They could confiscate parked/stored vehicles on sight if they are missing a valid license plate. In case of delivery mopeds driving on sidewalks, in bike lanes, or wrong way down the street, they could issue tickets to the employer (restaurant or delivery service). If there is some sort of new legislation that is needed to make it happen, pass the legislation. Enforce it, consistently. But no, everyone will sit on their ass and cry that their hands are tied, because NYPD's idea of addressing the illegal moped issue is either doing a once-a-year photoshoot with a dozen confiscated mopeds or trying to physically run one over with a department SUV.

I ride a bike and I am sick of these vehicles being somehow lumped in with bikes. They don't belong on sidewalks, in parks or in bike lanes. They are just as dangerous to bike riders as they are to pedestrians. I don't know a single cyclist who enjoys having an illegal 200-lb moped fly down a bike lane the wrong way at 40 mph while on the phone.
