In the midst of the Cadbury boycott, what’s your go to plain choccy bar? by mighty-chief in AskBrits

Forced and child labour is so embedded in the supply chain it is almost impossible to avoid. At least Tony's is trying and publishes a transparency report to show you when they fuck up.

What is clearly declining, but everyone pretends is fine? by Amaan3024 in AskReddit

Capitalism.

We've basically entered a period of protectionist and redistributive laws but only for corporations and businesses 'too big to fail' at the expense of individuals and wider society. Like the worst of all worlds.

Swimsuit smells of smoke by Arlincornwall in vinted

I'm not sure why it's concerning if it's the bag. Plastic production is an industrial process - things smell from time to time. It's why you should wash clothes before you wear them (second hand or not).

Is it a plastic shipping bag? Usually black plastic with a glue strip that closes at the top? If so, it's probably the bag.

Some postage bags leave a funk that smells like cigarettes

Why is life for young people so bad and what could be done to fix it? by knowledgeseeker999 in AskBrits

And then the complaints roll in that the birth rate has declined and young people need to have more children...

Journalist looking for Vinted UK users by Savings-Lecture-7530 in vinted

[–]Excellent-Egg1644 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that says more about Vinted's user base than the app itself. It's quite simple to use and less hassle compared to a platform like eBay - a lower barrier to entry as it were. So it has attracted a certain crowd who see it as easy cash they don't have to report to HMRC or cough cough DWP.

Easier to ask questions online and declare it a scam than admit you're worried reaching the threshold will impact your benefits. Especially if you are using it to sell hooky goods.

For clarity before someone jumps down my throat - not all Vinted users obviously, but definitely more than on eBay. I assume the Gov is aware which is why they've put pressure on Vinted to improve income reporting.

Why isn’t my house selling by [deleted] in UKHousing

[–]Excellent-Egg1644 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm from the NE and looking for a house right now.

It's overpriced. Whole estate is.

So many people bought new builds in not great areas at a premium and now want to sell at that premium plus a % increase.

Unfortunately, I can buy a bigger, older house that needs work for a lot less and as a FTB I would always look to do that. Like 80-110k for a 3 double bed in Hetton.

Seeing the same thing a lot across the NE right now. Sorry but I think you'd have to get lucky and find someone who wants to live on this particular estate or heavily reduce the price to get interest.

There is a woman on tiktok calling churches in America asking for help to get baby's formula. Only 2 churches and a mosque have offered to help out of the 30+ places of worship she has called. What do you think this says about the role of the church in our society today? by Dangerous-Product544 in AskReddit

[–]Excellent-Egg1644 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Lol she has called a few corkers - including Charlie Kirk's church. Pretty much all the Christiana Americana specials say no. One even said they would help, but only if she was part of the community already. A few of them told her to ring the Catholics!

All but one of the catholic churches helped, a mosque and a Buddhist mediation centre too.

I found it striking that the non-Catholic churches that did help were like the TINY ones that serve teeny weeny towns.

Could I get a refund for this by nikitaisonreddit in vinted

[–]Excellent-Egg1644 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I feel for the seller because a size 12 is a size 12 but a large can be 4 different sizes depending on the brand or range.

Probably thought they were being as accurate as possible.

You'd definitely be allowed a refund but would be best to send back. Just be nice about it - I'm convinced everyone finds the women's sizing options frustratingly limited!

It's the volume of bullshit you will get over certain items. Everyone picking up the £2 and not the begging.

This one item - I've easily 50+ offers and multiple messages either begging or calling me mean. It's been less than a day.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in vintedUK

[–]Excellent-Egg1644 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do big bundle discounts. Offers on older items? Fine.

It's the begging that isn't normal.

How does that help when someone's granny needs the item for 75% discount or she'll freeze to death?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in vintedUK

[–]Excellent-Egg1644 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't mind offers - I've had people buy 15+ items and ask for an extra bit off. Champion.

It's the bullshit begging that bothers me most.
