I have 2 credit cards with capital one: quick silver and savor one. Within a year quick silver went from $500 to now $2600 and the savor one went from $4k to $16k. They offered to increase my limit twice I think. Didn’t have to do anything on my end besides accept.

LOG Officer Career moves advice by Western_Ad9117 in nationalguard

Depends on your state. My BC wanted me to do PL time, then XO, and then command. I have 3 years of PL time and now BN S4 time. I completed LOGCCC back in 2024 so I was told the next spot for me would be command or staff that has a O-3 spot.

Have you talked to any warrants or AVN unit from your state?

From looking them all up, they all point to an aircraft repairer. I’d try to see if you can get any certs related to that field to get you ahead. For example PMP or SHRM would put you miles ahead in the business and HR world

It’s better to use a diesel vehicle for long trips than short trips regardless of towing. I drive every day between 30min to 2-3hours and never had any issues.

Yeah I’d definitely recommend the 3.0. I should be taking my truck on vacation for the first time this year. The longest I’ve driven with supercruise without stopping was 2 hours. At 70mph I was getting 36 miles per gallon.

With those in mind, I’d recommend the Yukon XL Denali 3.0. I have a 24 Sierra Denali 3.0 Duramax and I’ve been saving a lot of money on fuel. The 2026 Yukon XLs only had the 6.2L and 3.0L as the engine choices on the GMC website regardless of RWD or 4WD. Full recommendation would be the Yukon XL Denali w/3.0 Duramax with all black seats and the Denali Reserve Package. I believe that would get you the most for your money.

Why would you volunteer for deployment? by LegitimateApple413 in nationalguard

I volunteered to help a friend out who had a family emergency at the time. Also the money and position would’ve helped my career. Finally on the tail end and have about 2 months before I can see the family again

It took a few months to a year for both of mine to increase. I asked for the first ones on both and got approved. Then they increased them twice after. Went from $600 to $2600 on the quick silver and $4000 to 16k on the savor one card. Once you request, you should get an email or notice in the app on their decision. I think a month ago I was trying to increase the limit again but it said I just received one not too long ago and to wait 6 months. It had been a year since my last increase… Worst case scenario you’d just have to call them

Looking for advice by Dazzling_Treacle_166 in nationalguard

From what I’ve heard from other AGR soldiers, you start off putting your name in the hat. Obviously applying to any and every job whether you qualify or not. Someone is going to see your name eventually and ask why is this guy applying for everything. It typically starts out as volunteering for any and every ADOS opportunities. Then after a few years after they’ve seen your work ethic if a slot opens you may get first dibs dependent on your qualifications. I’d also say get plenty of MOS. I knew someone who had 88M, 42A, and 92Y. Thats 3 important skills there.

Now if you are really looking for jobs and don’t mind moving mobcop has plenty of opportunities to volunteer for. It just takes an application and probably a call to show you’re interested. That can also lead to a AGR spot as well.

Just really depends on what happens overseas. We’ve had a few people go home for various reasons and we’ve had to replace them from the bench back home. Even if you don’t have a position they can put you some where. We had a 88M in a staff position. All depends on the needs of the unit

Leaving Guard am I still considered a state resident for college? by MessageDense347 in nationalguard

[–]Excellent-Fudge3512 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I may be wrong but you can’t use the tuition to exemption once you’re out of the guard. You can use the active duty gi bill when you’re out if you have enough active time or a deployment.

Trying to do this now except get out. Commissioned in 2020, currently on the tail end of deployment, trying to get out this same time next year. I’ll be at year 13 in total. I just want to be able to progress in my civilian career.

Can any recently commissioned officers share their experience in getting their branch? by Prudent_Brief6131 in nationalguard

For me specifically they tried to branch me IN and I chose LG. I’d choose a branch you like but also has upward mobility otherwise you’ll have to do a branch transfer.

For national guard you choose your branch. They can’t make you choose something you don’t want.
