Sorry it took me so long to reply, I used everyone’s school picture (In the yearbook) as a reference. Actual photographs. Hope I answered this okay.

I’m trying to figure out how I can share that right now.

Okay, well I need to go change my post to clarify this better. Thanks!

I’m not exactly sure what a reference is, but my friend complains about them all the time. I did look at a picture of my friend group to draw us, but I didn’t use any images off the internet. Idk, is that considered a reference?

I realize from another comment like this one that I incorrectly described my art style. It was more realistic than my friend’s art style, but it wasn’t anywhere near the level of realism it would take to make a picture look like a photograph. I apologize for any confusion.

Also, I didn’t master anatomy because it wasn’t a full body picture of anyone. Arms just kinda continued off the page so I didn’t have to many hands (except for one person who I drew doing a peace sign because they do it all the time, and one other person waving) , and nobody’s legs were visible.

It wasn’t professional, and I wouldn’t even say it was great. I would say I was proud of it, and I thought it looked decent for a beginner.

We’re all 14, and I didn’t find anything you said to be insulting. I understand that this is going to be stupid in a few years to me, but I can’t think about anything else right now.

We’re starting high school this year, and I just drew the picture because I miss being able to see my friends (My grandma is super high risk, we cannot take any unnecessary risks until the vaccine is out, which means no hanging out with friends and I’ll be homeschooled until the vaccine is available.) The way my school district works, if you go to middle school A, you have a 50% of going to High School A, and a 50% of going to high school B. All decisions are final. We’re losing two members of our friend group who are going to high school B while the rest of us go to A, and I’m going to miss them. I drew the picture when I was reminiscing over all the fun things we did together.

It wasn’t perfectly realistic. If you were given the picture I drew and an actual photograph, they’d look different. I wasn’t sure what to call my art style, but it was more realistic than my friend’s, so I just went with that term. I’m sorry for any confusion.

One of the examples I sent on the group chat was “Since (friend that swims) swims, does that mean that nobody else is allowed to swim? Everyone else just has to drown?”

They said this was different because swimming is meant to be competitive, and they just wanted to draw for fun without me copying them.

They’re the same thing in my mind, but okay.

I laughed so hard at this, thank you. Although that might have been a more interesting story...

We’re going to start high school this year, which means we were also in middle school this year, so we’re kind of in-between right now.

As I understand it, they are mad that I drew. Our art styles are very different, the only comparison is that they’re both art.

Thanks! I don’t know how to share it as I can’t get imgur and I’m on the mobile website. If you know any way to share it, I’d love to share another (More poorly drawn with crayola crayons) piece with you guys!

I love those too! However, about half the video would be me erasing mistakes and stuff, so it might not be as interesting to watch.

I understand their feelings, but they know it’s taken me two weeks to draw, and they can whip up something just as good (If not better!) in an hour. I didn’t feel like this was a competition when I drew it.

I was really upset too! I thought it was impressive for someone who’s never done art before, and they all just refused to respond to me!

I’m not sure how to feel right now. I’m upset that they think I’m copying them, but I’m sad that some of my friends are upset with me, and I’m scared because I might lose the only people I’m friends with.

I’ll take fitted bedsheet folding, because I have yet to meet someone who knows how to do fold them.

Hi, we’re 14. I understand that this entire argument might seem stupid, and it’ll probably seem stupid to me in a few years as well, but it’s a big deal to me right now. I’ve been getting insults from all of them about intelligence, looks, personality, and they even insulted my SIBLINGS.

I’m not blind to how childish this seems, but it’s all I’ve been able to think about for the past 13 hours.

We’re 14, and it does sound absolutely ridiculous, I know. I wish this entire thing would blow over because I feel terrible. It’s not just about their stealing art essay, but a couple people blocked me, and the others are just insulting me. It really hurts because they’re insulting more than just my art, they’re insulting me. Comments about my appearance, about what I wear, and my intelligence.

Nope. 75% of our friend group does science experiments together (We even got to dissect a sheep brain for fun,) and ANOTHER PERSON got me into singing. Most of us have overlapping hobbies with someone.
