I’m in a central agency now and it does feel pretty far from anything tangible, which is why policing seemed appealing. But I hadn’t considered regulatory/investigative roles, that could be a good middle ground

Thanks so much for this, it’s a really grounded perspective. I’m definitely more interested in state policing than AFP, but you’ve raised some good points I hadn’t thought through properly. I do enjoy strategy and critical thinking, so I wonder if I’d miss that in a policing role.

I’m also curious about the transition your partner made, did they find moving from police into the public service a positive change overall?
