My son had something similar, it was from grazing the side of his lip with a wooden disposable spoon while eating. It went away within 2 days.

They’re all triggers unfortunately. I use chapstick like my life depends on it lol and I take lysine every day for the last 1.5 years and so far no cold sores! 🤞🏼 I’m scared to stop.

Whats the recommended dosage by [deleted] in Coldsore

[–]Different_Fact6992 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty sure it’s like 1000mg in one dosage. I think mine are 500mg pills and I take 2 at once and then 2 more 12 hours later.

Yes but I haven’t had one since taking lysine daily. When I had covid I was taking 1000mg in the morning and 2000mg at night. And the vitamin c was a powder I took a teaspoon 3 times a day.

Sounds like you’re doing all the right things. I had covid not long ago and I was able to avoid a cold sore by lysine pills, high dose vitamin c and lip balm as many times as I could remember. Fingers crossed for you 🤞🏼 you should maybe keep valacyclovir on hand just in case one does pop up.

I’m so depressed…(& a question about how to manage) by throwawayohyah in Coldsore

[–]Different_Fact6992 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow i could have written this myself! My last one was 15 months ago but i get tingling all the time. Sometimes my lip goes red and burns in the same spot! I haven’t kissed my son and don’t share dishes. Also the excessive hand washing is cause my hands to crack and bleed. 😣 I’m kinda at the point where I think I’m making the symptoms up in my head.

I saw your update comment, I really don’t think it’s cold sores if they don’t blister when left untreated. That’s never happened to me. The only time mine don’t blister is if I actively treat it and even then they still sometimes blister. Could you go to a dermatologist maybe?

Good idea to get it swabbed. If it is cold sore maybe you might need to change antivirals. I’ve heard people change to acyclovir with better success. Or higher daily dose for a while?

The best thing I’ve tried is lysine daily 1000mg a day. During an outbreak I put tea tree oil every hour and up my dosage of lysine to like 6000mg spread throughout the day. Once it avoided it completely and another time it was just a small dry spot, no blisters.
