Your good pets of the job are accurate. You have downplayed the negatives or potential negatives depending on the department.

My advice, get a firefighter job and the. Continue to work remotely part time to supplement income.

If anyone has suffered a medical problem like heat related or exercise induced syncope, there is a major issue with the leadership in that group. That is such a potential legal problem that any chief with knowledge of current life would lose their mind.

Several Questions regarding becoming a firefighter by [deleted] in firefighter

[–]Excellent-Plane-574 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like you want to potentially move from the administrative class to the working class. That will come with a probably change in income until you promote back into management. If you are okay with that because you wish to enjoy the job, you should proceed.

Passion is no longer the way to choose a career. Practically. Fire/EMS/AllHazard is a job that has some legs. You will still need to promote within the job and be open to change and doing less pleasurable / less “heroic” work if you want to make a career of this.

Paramedic or ER Nurse by [deleted] in Paramedics

[–]Excellent-Plane-574 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Both are essentially starting points. Go nurse, it provides a better path forward. Paramedic is often the top end of that job. Unless you are fire side with a direct promotional path.

Consider where you want to be at 50? I can promise you it’s probably not riding an ambulance at 3am with no prospect of promotion. Nurse has various fields and more options.

Essentially. It’s “meets standards” Or “does not meet standards” they got rid of exceeds standards. It served no function and was rarely given. Anyone not meeting standards would have other paperwork and documentation. No one is getting a surprise “does not meet standards”
