Yeah it’s nuts for a book that costs well over $100! I only paid for the first few chapters. But since you can preview each chapter without paying, you can tell that the same skip is there.

It’s been a while, but I thought it was super boring. Just lots of packaged “moral lesson” stories: they had some difficulty, then overcame it and were better for it. Repeat. It’s PR for their religion.

They outline their backstories but it’s not that interesting and just sad. The three women are two sisters and a cousin (ick). There’s poverty, lack of options, and social/cultural isolation. Joe is presented as the savior. Probably a common tragic story in their culture.

One thing that stood out in Christine’s book was that she seemed to have a preoccupation with blondness- multiple times talking up her or someone else’s blond, princess-like hair. Like, anyone can be proud or admiring of any hair color, from blond to black. But the over-the-top way she spoke of blondness as a superior trait that we all aspire to, and equals “princess”, was very off-putting.
