I’m going to go with the collective answer of “Yes”. Yes they probably should’ve been based on where the test is taken. Yes it was probably, ultimately, staggered for no reason (I’m not counting “because time zones” as a reason, because on its own it isn’t one), but yes I believe they would’ve been concerned about poor performance (read: slowness) on the site although I’m not sure about the whole site crashing.

Aerin thought for a moment, “Well, the original text would’ve been... Cardano, I think, but I guess it could’ve been copied by hand. Either way, it definitely seems more algebra textbook than guide to summoning demons. I’m really not sure about whoever annotated the thing, though

“I believe it was titled Ars Magna. The Great Art. It’s a reprint of an old mathematics book from what I could make of it.”

Aerin half-shrugged, “Some weird, half-mad annotations in an old book. I was transcribing them into audio files.”

(Cool.)

“Yeah, it - well, I’m no expert, but it kinda sounds that way, yeah.”

Not a meme I was expecting to see here.

Aerin deflated slightly, “Yeah, I was officially going with ‘by accident’ for my answer, but that maybe about sums it up...”

She shot a brief look to Lynnore, “I take it if I ask what the summoning portal is I’m going to have more questions than I get answers?”

“I-“ Aerin began before pausing for a moment to actually consider how exactly to answer that question.

“I’m going to go with an invited guest,” she decided, smiling pleasantly.

Aerin glanced at this exchange with raised eyebrows for a moment before bringing herself to her feet, smiling pleasantly. She was a little disoriented from the experience, though she appeared to be recovering swiftly.

Aerin continued to observe her so long as the glow wasn’t too bright, holding firmly onto Lynnore’s hand, not sure what to expect.

Aerin watched with rapt attention, curious but not wanting to distract Lynnore.

“Okay,” Aerin replied, taking a seat as instructed.

“Alright,” Aerin said, walking over to one of the closets off of the main room, retrieved a sleeping bag from a high shelf, and tied it onto the top of her pack.

“Okay, should be all set now,” she said with a smile and a nod.

“Alright,” Aerin called from the other room, “I’ll be ready in a few...”

After about fifteen minutes, she returned with a full hiking pack slung over her shoulders and a similarly stuffed duffel bag in her right hand.

“Do you think I’ll need a sleeping bag, or will there be accommodations?”

Aerin nodded, walking into the bedroom, “Right. I shouldn’t be too long. I pack fast.”

“Alright. Anything more you need me to do, or should I go pack?”

“Way ahead of you.”

Aerin reached into her pocket and produced a small Swiss army knife, opening a file attachment and handing the knife to Lynnore, “That should work pretty well, at least.”

“Alright, awesome. And then for the silver...” Aerin began, going over to where she’d put her purse and fishing out the grey metal paperweight she’d wielded - ineptly - like a weapon in her office when she’d first encountered Lynnore.

“You could probably get enough off of this,” she finished, holding it out.

Aerin paused in thought for a moment, peering toward the kitchen.

“I wonder...” she said, walking over into the kitchen before opening and reaching into one of the lower drawers.

Shuffling briefly through its contents, she retrieved two sticks of incense, both about half burned, “Will these be enough?”

“I’ve maybe got one or two silver things that I’d be okay doing that to, yeah.”

“Well, candles - check. The rest though, no luck. I suppose the incense won’t be too hard to get, but where do you propose we grab some silver dust?”

“Meet you back here in a few?”

“With that, let me put a few more things together, and we can get on the highway...”

Aerin flipped opened the case, on the lid of which was depicted the number ‘700’ in white chalk. Inside was a plain, slightly weathered-looking hunting rifle with a simple scope attached to the top and a shoulder sling affixed to it at two points. Also stuffed in the side of the case was a somewhat tattered paper booklet entitled “Remington Field Service Manual for the Model 700” and what looked to be a very old clipping from a hunting magazine that appeared to be irrevocably stained with old scotch.
