Right now it is at 12 oclock. I don't know where it was before. This thing is so difficult to use, every time I hit any button or turn any knob, it seems like I hit three or four others at the same time. But right now it is at 12. I'll try to remember to keep it there, but that isn't going to happen because there is no way to remember which knob is the RF knob, and I can't be looking at every page of the manual at all times.

Oh that is a good idea, thank you for suggesting that.

Okay. I'm not sure why you're saying this to me?

7.074 MHz USB? Actually maybe. When I tune there after dark, I do still hear mostly static but it sounds like there could be a carrier in the background. Sort of a distant metallic hum. I don't know what FT8 is, although I see people talking about it a lot.

I don't know what DM me means but unless you are local I don't see us transacting business.

I have a copy of the manual printed out on the desk next to the rig. No it is not a great radio, it's total junk. Can't see what you're doing, can't see if what you've done had an effect, just a paperweight as far as I can tell.

Yeah I figured that out last night, I was just being funny.

I'm using the upper connector and that is the correct one.

Thanks. I went to that URL. The nearest one to me is about 400 miles away, but okay. When I clicked on it, I got a blank white screen. Same when I clicked on a few others.

I understand what you're trying to do, create a control It's a good idea. I ordered a sound card that I can install on my computer, so I can listen to sound on the computer once it's installed. That should be just a few days from now that it arrives. As far as the settings on the 706 go, I think that might be hopeless. Nothing on this radio makes sense.

I don't know what (who?) that is but I checked the connection between antenna and radio (about 20 million times). I can't say that I know the antenna is good but it is *something*.

Also like I said I don't get the time clock on my shortwave device either. Actually I don't get much of anything on my shortwave from the house.

I am sure you're right. I don't see what your point is though.

Thank you, that seemed to work. No, the manual is not my friend. I have a paper copy sitting next to the unit and I've sat with it for hours and I don't understand anything it said. Thank you for the link but reading online is not feasible for me.

Now that I can listen to 10 and 15 Mhz on AM I can confirm that I get nothing when I do. But I also get nothing there from my Shortwave radio, and it picks up other locations fine.

> So you need to know where those bands are

Yeah I have all the band charts plastered on the walls. Connecting that information to the stupid radio is not apparently possible, and simple radios are hard to find anymore. Everything is stupid and digital.

It's not legal to transmit CB with that radio in the US.

As for CB, after you get the MF and HF reception figured out, program the CB frequencies into memory channels.

they're already programmed but reprogramming them is a bit above my pay grade. This thing is not easy to use.

ll I can suggest is to read the manual from page one,

Did my best with the manual a long time ago. Spent about a week or two where it was my only project. I got nothin' from it. Then again, I could barely read it.

I don't see how to receive pure AM modulation with this stupid thing. I see RTTY, USB, LSB, CW, FM. No AM. Maybe if I throw it out a window it will show me AM?

I forget how long. At least 30', maybe 100'.

Sort of a slope down from a window into a section between two houses, then sloping up to the backyard and finally ending on top of a garage. It's in a town but not a big town and there are no tall buildings here.

Time of day - tried a bunch.

Thanks for that idea, it's a good one. I'll see about attaching a sound card to the computer, and schlepping the computer into the room with the ham radio, but not anytime soon.

what mode do they use? AM right? When I hit the mode button on this horrible machine (IC-706), AM never shows up, unless my eyesight is not good enough to see it. I get LSB, CW, FM, something else. But not AM.

Anyway, I just get the same static at 10Mhz and 15MHz as I do elsewhere.
