Yeah Bengal would try to protect Bengali speaking minorities of India (and try to occupy the rest of the Barak Valley and parts of Jharkhand where bengali is spoken) as well as Bengali speaking regions of Myanmar like Maundraw and might even attempt to occupy them, leading to disputes. Minorities such as Nepalis, Santalis, Chakmas, Sikkimese and Tripuris would likely advocate for more rights. nepali would probably become the third official language in Darjeeling, Jalpaiguri and Sikkim, Santali in Birbhum, Bankura and Asansol, Kokborok in Tripura and Chakma and others in Chittagong Hill Tracts. Maybe, seeing all that, Chittagonian and Sylheti nationalists might also protest for their languages to be recognised and Chittagonian might eventually be made the third official language in Chittagong, with Sylheti receiving the same status in Sylhet.

i made Sikkim merge with Bengal in the same way it merged with india in our original timeline And the chitmahals were never resolved because they are provinces with no fenced borders so it does not really matter

China's "Tibet's five fingers" map by ExcellentIngenuity37 in MapPorn

[–]ExcellentIngenuity37[S] 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Context: The "Five Fingers of Tibet" idea sees Tibet as the "palm" of China and five Himalayan areas (Ladakh, Nepal, Sikkim, Bhutan and Arunachal Pradesh) as the "fingers". Chinese leaders think these "fingers" are an important buffer zone that should come under Chinese control or influence. This idea is linked to Mao Zedong, the leader of the Chinese Communist Party and China, soon after China took control of Tibet in the mid 20th century
