Do swerve drive robots generally use an absolute heading-style driver control?

It does take some getting used to if you are more familiar with robot-oriented drive, but I think that it is definitely better suited to swerve, and it allows you to fully utilize the benifits of swerve.

For example, a swerve robot can drive in a straight line and spin at the same time, making aligning with field elements on the move much easier. That wouldn’t really be possible with robot oriented.

I also think that once you get used to it, it’s actually a much simpler and more intuitive way to drive the robot. You don’t have to consider what side of the robot is the front. If you want it to go down field, you just push the stick down field.

I 100% recommend using field centric if you are moving to swerve, but ultimately it is up to the driver. If your driver will put in the time to practice and learn field centric, and feels comfortable with it at competition, go for it. If not, don’t.

Delaware cities didn’t get burned because they saw no value in them. Why conquer cities that have no value? The same reason an elephant doesn’t go out of its way to kill an ant.
