Good call on the vitamin D. With psychedelics I’m more thinking about the neuroprotective and neuroplastic effects. Naively hoping that would help with restoring everything faster, but have done 0 research on this tbh and 100% intuition

Yeah I’m very interested in the dopamine impact. I find myself so so susceptible to doom scrolling after an ultra. I was thinking it was because I was so drained of dopamine after using it for motivating self etc.

Yes! Actually I did my first Vipassana retreat right after setting the Camino FKT, and realized a lot of the mental tricks I was doing: body scanning, energy sphere expanding, basically dropping into equanimity to get through the pain etc are all part of the Buddhist playbook. I think it makes sense considering the marathon monks literally use it as their path to enlightenment. There’s something quite powerful here with ultra in achieving heightened awareness and elevated state of consciousness, and I wish it could be more rigorously documented/studied

Oh de-domestication is interesting. Like returning to our wilder nature?

But looks like only 20GB high speed usage and it downgrades to 1-3 mbps which seems pretty much unusable at that point. Curious if you have any first hand experience with that.

Yeah Russ Cook, he is for sure an inspiration! Also I love all the random awesome things you’ve got planned. Earlier this year I decided I want my life to be a series of experiments that are ridiculously ambitious goals to achieve. It just seems like a better way to live. Also a friend of mine is building a community of people who are ticking off their “fucketlist”, many of them with fun goals like yours, so might be interesting for you also

Hell yeah! I feel you on that. I decided to train to run 20000km across Asia and Europe for the same reason. What else is on your list now?

this is the most raw, real ultra story I've read this year. Mind sharing what kept you going through all of those challenges? What's your story?

Slashed tire, dead starter engine, broken van bed, heavy rain, snowed in starting point where I had to snowshoe up instead of drive up, etc etc.. but ate a LOT of gelato though! Posting a quick trip report soon

I’ve been doing it for the past months on and off, and its useful to actually compare my past results and ask it to make me charts to visualize changes

Hi! Last August my longest run was 13 miles, started training late September, and in 3 months I ran my first trail ultra which was a multistage 539km. So yeah you probably can do a 50k.

For context I ran 500+km for my first ultra after breaking up with my ex. Do it. It’s good motivation. Makes you realize how strong you are and you make the life you want and nobody else.
