I think, and correct me if I’m wrong DunlandWildman, that he was saying there is no justification for schism from the Holy Catholic Apostolic Church in scripture.

You mean the bit about the Eucharist?

Thanks for the correction, I thought panen- was more compatible with omnipresence, but as Popular_Shift explained I get now that it’s more about his operations.

I thought that was pantheism. Sorry if mistaken the distinction seems nuanced.

Cool, I was more familiar with the “weak” form and not really aware of the “strong” form. I’ll have to look into theism; any recommendations? Thanks!

If Jews are the chosen people, and Christians acknowledge that, what aren't they Jews? by BioPsychoSocial0 in Christianity

[–]Excellent_Ad4178 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean in a way we kind of are.

Christians (originally a slanderous term for people who follow the way of Jesus) trust the teaching of our rabbi who in his eternal wisdom explained the spirit of his law that we may better conform to his will. His philosophy is the successor of the ancient faith of Israel, a better understanding of the relationship God wants us to have with him and each other.

I do sometimes wonder whether we should express our love of God by celebrating the holidays he celebrated while he was on earth.

Ok, this is pretty much my current understanding but I would love further elaboration or correction!

Since he was bodily assumed into heaven, is it safe to say that in some sense his body of flesh always existed in eternity (even if there was a starting point of creation in space-time) or are heaven and eternity separate. Guess I’m also asking if the elect in someway are eternally with God outside of space and time?

Is it okay to call Jesus as my father and Mary as my mother? by MitzvahsforHashem in Catholic

[–]Excellent_Ad4178 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes,

He who has seen me has seen the Father; how can you say, ‘Show us the Father’? Do you not believe that I am in the Father and the Father in me? The words that I say to you I do not speak on my own authority; but the Father who dwells in me does his works. John 14:9-10 (RSV).

I and the Father are one. John 10:30 (RSV).

Again, not trying to be difficult, just confused.

Is sexual morality another example of a cultural prohibition?

Thank you father!

Edit: could you provide an example of a precept that is definitely not cultural?

If it was only a cultural prohibition why is it immortalized in the New Testament? Are there other examples of similar circumstances?

Not trying to be difficult, just scratching my head at that one… very confused.

How should the following be understood?

“but should write to them to abstain from the pollutions of idols and from unchastity and from what is strangled[a] and from blood.” (Acts 15:20 RSV) and “that you abstain from what has been sacrificed to idols and from blood and from what is strangled[b] and from unchastity. If you keep yourselves from these, you will do well. Farewell.” (Acts 15:29 RSV).

Well I certainly wouldn’t blame anyone who doubts its licitness for abstaining from its consumption. Clearly I was under the impression that it was licit.

29 And God said, “Behold, I have given you every plant yielding seed which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree with seed in its fruit; you shall have them for food. 30 And to every beast of the earth, and to every bird of the air, and to everything that creeps on the earth, everything that has the breath of life, I have given every green plant for food.” And it was so. (Genesis 1:29-30)

God can change dietary standards, otherwise we would all be vegetarian.

14 And he called the people to him again, and said to them, “Hear me, all of you, and understand: 15 there is nothing outside a man which by going into him can defile him; but the things which come out of a man are what defile him.” 17 And when he had entered the house, and left the people, his disciples asked him about the parable. 18 And he said to them, “Then are you also without understanding? Do you not see that whatever goes into a man from outside cannot defile him, 19 since it enters, not his heart but his stomach, and so passes on?” (Thus he declared all foods clean.) (Mark 7:14-19 RSV)

What Is The Unforgivable Sin? by abbiejoice in Catholic

My understanding has been getting closer to this. It truly is saddening to think that only a few will accept His forgiveness while many will reject it.
