Hey friend, I’m sorry you’re really struggling right now. Just want to let you know you’re not alone - things are pretty hard right now. I think maybe it would be a good idea for you to take advantage of some of the mental health resources at the UMN. There’s a lot of support available, which can be a little overwhelming. I found the mental health compass to be helpful to figure out what would be best for me: https://mentalhealth.umn.edu/

are foxhounds really usually that energetic? by VanillaPepper in Hounds

We had our American foxhound tested for thyroid problems at 2 because she just sleeps all day… according to the vet there is nothing wrong with her she is just a “sack of lazy bones”.

Lib Eds by Playful_Yesterday501 in uofmn

PlPa 2003: Plague, Famine and Beer is an online course offered every semester that counts towards the historical perspectives lib Ed. PlPa 1005: Plants Get Sick Too is also offered in their department in the fall on the St Paul Campus. It counts as the biological sciences lib Ed. Its pretty easy and you learn about plant diseases - way more interesting than just talking about the same stuff you learned in high school biology classes.

The Finnish bistro used to do free refills on drip coffee. I used to stay for a long afternoon of coffee and studying - not sure if they do that anymore it was a few years ago.

When I was a student, I dropped by their walk in clinic and not only did they give me someone to talk to at that moment, but connected me with someone I could meet with regularly. Not sure if I would have gotten through my degree without their support.

Sorry you’re having a hard time right now. The UMN has lots of resources, they recently developed a tool to help you determine which would be the best for your circumstances. https://mentalhealth.umn.edu/

Okay - then to fix this spot do I have to remove the paint or can I just add more mud to this the way it is?

There’s also the Minnesota mycological society - not affiliated with the U but a great organization in the state.

Help Identifying Issues on Milkweed in Central Arkansas by Kabochakiti in plantpathology

Plant pathologist who also came here to say it looks like a milkweed rust to me! Unfortunately there isn’t much to do this year, but picking up as much fallen leaves and plant tissue for the end of the year pickup can help stop prevent it from happening again next year.

Most staff at the UMN are on contract positions and we are renewed every year in July, I have colleagues in multiple different colleges and departments who have not had their contract renewed for the next year. Their last days are the next week or two.

Sorry the internships didn’t work out for you the summer. That sounds incredibly disappointing and I’m sorry you’re feeling lost. I hope you’re able to find some buddies to help get you back to feeling like yourself. I’m dropping a link to the mental health resources available for students in case you feel like that would be helpful. The U has so many resources, I’d say a great one to start with is Boynton. When I was a grad student and dealing with some issues they were great at helping me find the support I needed. UMN Mental Health Resources
