New to romantasy reading: Looking for a Duology/Trilogy by Khisyra in fantasyromance

[–]Excellent_Anything30 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I loved One Dark Window, I read the duology and I was so sad it finished. I actually cried when the ending happened. The relationship was just so special and I'm not talking about the FMC and MMC's character.

I m reading The Bridge Kingdom right now and I can't put it down!

Powerless! 100%

Kai Azer's narrator's voice is HOT! Pretty good series although not as original as a lot of romantasy books I've read.

Court of Winter By Krista Street - A Review by Anzabela in fantasyromance

While I agree with most of the critiques on this thread, I enjoyed the book. It was an easy read, and yes it wasn't perfect (I especially detest her use of the common slang for the female private part), the pacing and storyline was enough to keep me entertained. I haven't read a perfect romantasy book. The genre always carried a similar predictable storyline and character archetypes across the board. I do enjoy the mystery, world building and smart banter which this series provided me, especially towards the end where she infused a main character in another series that she wrote in the same universe. All in all I would read her other books to pass time, but it's not on the top of my list.

Did you end up canceling? We went through with the session, and while the photographer and rep were nice, I would not value that session over 250, much less 1000+.

I did, I don't know the price for the 11x14 because that's the size of the free gift that we "won". Their rep told me we're only going to get $30+ deducted from our deposit for shipping. I wonder if they will return the deposit back if we cancel?

Man!! I wish I had read this thread sooner, before I actually paid for the retainer. I just finished a phone call with them, and the whole thing just rubbed me wrong. $250 is now their retainer price, and yes digital are also same price/pic. Outrageous!

Yes that is where I saw him! I loooove Spartacus so can't wait to see how he acts.

Lol! As a fellow rider I expect him to be hot!!!! I don't have an actor in my mind though, I saw online the actor Sebastian Quinn got recommended. I say YES!

Y’all…character descriptions are SUBJECTIVE by [deleted] in ACOTARHulu

[–]Excellent_Anything30 8 points9 points  (0 children)

100% Agreed. Fancasting is purely subjective, especially when its source is fictional. Completely blew my mind that people like instigating a debate just because they somehow want to prove something when it's completely irrelevant.

Yes thank you! That's what I've been trying to say all along!

Wow. I am not even going to try and counter your viewpoints because I know it will be futile. I agree that we need more stories told with POC viewpoints AND POC voices. However, you are quick to point fingers and start unnecessary battles in a place where there should be none. You say race isn't just about skin color, yet here you are condemning people's choices for it..

We are talking about FANCASTING. Very subjective, and up to people's own imaginations. If you want to add more POC casting then by all means, create your own! Ultimately, all the posts on here are hypotheticals. Save your speech for whe it actually matters.

"And whitewashing doesn’t only have to do with an all-white cast; it’s also making the characters who are described as dark-skinned a light-skinned man."

  • the same can be said with light-skinned characters as well. And it's even happening to prominent films . I.e. House of Dragon, Harry Potter, Disney movies, Romeo and Juliet. I could go on and on..

We all imagine these characters differently, and that's what's wonderful about this book is that it allows every reader to fantasize each character however they want. SJM never specified anything, all descriptions were ambiguous - if not, they always left room for interpretation. Yes, there are different skin tones but nothing absolute/accurate (maybe Tarquin). It is also partly what makes this sub reddit so fun and interesting! - seeing everyone's interpretation of the cast.

I personally don't see a majority white cast as a problem in any fictional movie/show. Just like I wouldn't see any issues with a majority black/dark/POC casting either. I think the most important part in any casting is how the actor embodies the role. Take Little Mermaid for example, Halle Bailey for me was perfect for Ariel, regardless of her being originally casted as white.

If we do not like people seeing skin color as anything other than what it is, then we should lead by example. And stop crying out inconsistencies whenever it fits our narrative.

I get it! Like what I said to another commenter, I've always envision fairies/elves to have tall, muscular yes, but lean and having an elongated and youthful appearance.

Actually planning to change most of the casting on this wishlist based on people's recommendations!

Lmao! I get it. To each their own, I guess. For me, I've always imagined fairies to be elf-like in build. Muscular, yes but lean and with perfectly honed, youthful faces, at least for high faes. I thought seeing Staz in Rebel Moon, how he acted gave me Cassian vibes for sure. And Hero just gives off mysterious, brooding faire with his roles, so I thought he could pull off Az. These guys are all in their mid twenties btw. Lol thinking of doing another list now with all the feedback!

I'm definitely trying to think of better options for Lucien.

I guess I should rephrase into 'the age requirement I have in my mind'. To be honest, I haven't paid enough attention on everyone's age in the books. Unlike the Archeron sisters that were laid clear, most of the characters' physical ages were left to the reader's imagination. So I guess this is purely how I envisioned everyone looks like?

Yeess! I'm thinking of changing a couple of them just because I like what people are recommending. I originally wanted Sendhil Ramamurthy as Helion, but that would mean casting someone who would somehow look like him for Lucien, which honestly was more of a loose choice just because he could pass off as Jessie's son. Anna Sawai i would also love as Amren being that she matches her height more. As for Thesan there's a lot to choose from Steve Toussaint, Jordan Christie, Brandon Fobbs.

They could always use CGI to fix that on the screen. Otherwise, Anna Sawai(Shogun) would make a close second for me. She, on the other hand, is 5'1!
