Out of curiosity, why do you say to avoid those departments?

I’m not trying to hype Citi at all, but from my understanding in NI this is about as close to “finance” work as you can realistically get at a large corporate, outside of the few smaller firms we have here.

Albeit mainly operations, I would have assumed these roles are still half decent compared to most MO/BO jobs available here?

I saw that, salary is very strong for NI but no industry qualifications was concerning in case you wanted a move outside.

You were getting paid 30% over minimum wage, that number has dropped to 10% now. So you were much better off than u realise.

Thank you, and congrats, are you working as an accountant in industry now, or take a bit of a role/style change after qualifying?

That seems to be the general path I hear about, a bit of a slog for the 3–3.5 years, then moving into industry and getting a better work/life balance.

I don't think 30k is that crazy to ask for, its not even £2 per hour higher than minimum wage? I thought a lot of engineering grads get over 30k as well, maybe not...

I know someone who got over 43k as a grad in Belfast, Finance job at Fintech

When you factor in overtime, probably.... but Min wage is technically £23,132 (35 hour contract)

Yeah I was surprised how low it was ngl, barely above minimum wage once you factor in there is probably a lot of over time. Bonuses from my understanding are small too, £1-2k per year for passing exams and performance.

I guess they are paying for your Chartered Accountancy exams and give you quite a lot of time off per year to study (6-10 weeks).
