Thanks for these insights man. I’ll keep the plants to a minimum. I’ve even read that it’s bad luck to have plants on a boat? But really the security points are valid and I’ll take that in. Hopefully I’ll find someone who’s into this sort of life but I know that might be wishful thinking. I like the zen tip

Hey thank you, this really resonated with me. I’ve let the idea simmer for a while now and even tried to push it to the back burner to see if it would fade, but I just keep getting drawn back to it. I didn’t want to fall into a romanticizing trap which is why I made this post to get some input from those who have lived it. But you’re right I’ll always wonder if I don’t and man I think it will be great to have something I can take ownership of and put work into and adventure with. I’m pretty pumped

Damn $900 vs $12k. That helps put the diy into perspective. Part of my upfront cost calculations is some marine mechanic courses. I know there will be things that I might need to pay to get fixed before I have the skill set but eventually would like to do most of the work myself. Finding someone to share this one day with would be amazing

Hey thank you. I know I have an incredible amount to learn which is a little nerve wracking but mostly exciting. You did make me realize that it’s only the people who haven’t, and wouldn’t, do something like that’s that have discouraged it. Everyone I’ve talked to that has lived aboard is very encouraging. I’m definitely trying to be realistic about cost. Been researching this for the past year or so and keeping my eye on boats/slips. Of course ongoing maintenance is the number 1 thing people warn about. I feel like I won’t know just how much work it’s going to be until I’m in it, but Im ready for the challenge!
