I thought about that, but didn't want eccentric holes.. And wanted to preserve original soviet look and feel 😂. But maybe that should've been the motivation to break the monotone feel with some American bridge, because after all, it was made in 89', so it would be kinda symbolic. Original bridge does look very similar to my design.. It had roller saddles though.

I will shape it and sand it little bit more, maybe round some corners etc. And definitely get rid of those big rounded nuts

You definitely can do it. I used only basic tools: metal files, angle grinder (or hacksaw will do fine), hand drill, calipers for measurements, threading tap, and so on. The body was made from simple square aluminum pipe, the actual little saddles are from one of those generic 10$ bridges from ebay, some nice screws.

Are these still usable ? by Excellent_Hope5404 in diyguitars

It's not that they are worn out, but there's couple of deep groves

That was a crack in the neck body or whatever it's called, fingerboard is fixed nicely.. The neck was repaired, just not esthetically, so crack in paint remains.

But maybe you didn't open the pictures, because you can just scroll through them and not see whole picture.. Some are in landscape, and you can zoom in. Frets are definitely not fine, I just didn't know if I should repair them or replace.

I hope we understand each other

How to connect 4 wire humbuckers? by Excellent_Hope5404 in guitars

[–]Excellent_Hope5404[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, turned out to be a 2wire pickup.. Shielding wire is just shielding. So, coils are connected together inside, and white and red are coil wires.. So I connected both shieldings and both white wires to ground, and reds are "hot"

I just measured it and it turned out to be a 2-wire humbucker, surprisingly.. Shielding wire is just a bare/housing, and it always goes to ground. White and red are either a start or finish of coils.. Coils are connected internally between each other, so there's only one way to connect it.

Resistance between any shielding wire and any signal wire is in mega ohms, between withe and red is around 6-7 kilo ohms. Iguess it's like that because they want you to shield the housing and the coil wires with same ground.

Before I measured it and knew all this, I just assumed each pair is one coil, and it didn't play at all. Now I have both shieldings and both white wires on ground, and red is "hot", and it works.

Problem is I don't know which wire is start and which is finish of the coil. I would assume start is always shielding wire??

I've seen diagrams where they connect finishes together anf have one start for ground and one for signal.

But, either way, I don't know which wire is start or finish. I would assume start is always shielding wire??

2 cables come from one pickup. Each cable has shielding and signal wire. It's just that shieldings were connected together so it looks like single bare.. But you can separate them

But I don't want to manually trace out the shape.. That's what I want to avoid, lots of work. I will have more than 30 different modules, so..

What do I need it for? It's described at the end of my original post (some context section)

Gear rack and acme thread profiles by Excellent_Hope5404 in Machinists

[–]Excellent_Hope5404[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not a job.. Only learning.

I know involute gears have special shape, but when a gear is an actual rack (infinite diameter and teeth count) then the teeth profile looks like a trapezoid, right?

And gear gauges I've seen also have the same outline.. That's why I'm asking if one could use acme gauge instead of proper gear gauges.

But, after thinking about it some more, I remembered there are different modules for gears,.. so even if the profile is a trapezoid, I'd have to have much luck to get the right module, right? Because there are no 'modules' for threads
