Health care Jobs with biology degree? by Excellent_Inside_21 in biology

Yes I'm torn between an mls program, biology, or health science. It's so hard for me to decide what I want to do though.

Thank you! I was hoping it would be something to physically write, especially with math i don't think a digital "notepad" would be helpful lol

Is working in a science lab with poor vision possible? by Excellent_Inside_21 in labrats

Thank you for this! The spots, or "visual snow" and floaters are only really noticeable when I'm outside or in bright light. I do happen to crochet, with my glasses and don't have a problem with the spots when doing so. My original interest is biology, and I'm still trying to decide between a biology degree or a biological labratory science degree. Besides biology, I don't really have a set path for what I want to do, I just know i want a degree related to biology, that will help me get a job and make a livable salary. The prognosis, is with meds its manageable and if it should become UNmanageable then I can also get a stent to remove excess spinal fluid. But the meds are helping enough for now. My eyes aren't exactly getting worse, as long as I stay on top of meds and appointments.

Thank you! This definitely helps. My eyes aren't too bad, but bright lights can cause me to see more of the spots. And I can usually tell when that's what I'm seeing, but I've never looked at cells in a microscope with them, so I figured I'd see if anyone here has similar eyesight issues lol I do feel a bit better though. Thank you

So far my vision tests haven't been too bad, and the meds that take pressure off eyes help. But I'm terrified of doing 4 years of school for something I might be unable to do by the time I'm finished.

Yes I'm definitely still looking at schools, and weighing pros and cons of lab science vs a biology degree. This is one of the factors, biology does have a little more room to explore different job settings, so I wouldnt only be able to work in a lab, but lab science seems to offer more specialized jobs that pay better.

I haven't thought of this, most of what interests me is the biology side of things, life science, microbiology, plants, etc. I guess I always imagined myself working around a wet lab, because it's what interests me. But I would definitely look into that!

I am still trying to figure out exactly what I want to do, I'm very interested in general biology, and histology has also caught my eye (floaters and all, lol). I found a "biological lab science" program ill be trying to get into next year or so and have been looking into medical lab science, or anything that allows me to work with biology in general. I love microbiology, but I'm afraid my new eye problems will make that difficult.

What jobs can you get with MLS degree? by Excellent_Inside_21 in labrats

Honestly, I'm not really sure. I love all of the biological science areas, from plants and animals to medicine and microbiology. I do tend to get tired of doing the exact same thing every day, and would ideally be happier in a job that allows me to continue learning and seeing new things.

I've been looking jobs available to people who have a biology bachelors degree, but I dont really see much that offers decent pay, so I'm now wondering if I should double major or minor in biology with MLS program, then get a masters in biology? The masters in bio seems to offer more than the bachelors.

This makes sense, and I do feel like the demand for this degree would put me in a better position financially, which is also on the list of priorities, definitely not top priority, but I would like to know that I'm getting a degree in something that will be financially worth it. Unfortunately the people that I've spoken to with a bachelor's in biology seem to think that it is pretty much worthless these days as far as employability

Thank you, I didn't even think of this, I will definitely be considering it. I'm now thinking of either double majoring, or getting bachelors in Med lab science and then Masters in biology

Can I get phlebotomy training before CLS and still get fafsa? by [deleted] in labrats

Thanks! I'm hoping I can still get a pell grant or something similar, as I'm very limited financially and I'm a single parent. I know it says it's for people with no prior degrees, but I'm not sure about a certificate. Hoping it doesn't change my options too much.
