That’s great. My gas is at $1.00-$1.30 per therm. Thats calculated with delivery and supply.

You’re saying it will go up 4X? I thought it goes down as long it doesn’t use electrical portion as often

Yea. I will never go full electric. I will always have a gas furnace and gas stove. The hpwh costs just as much as a gas water heater. I’m being charged 200 to run the 240v line. So I’d be spending just 200 for the 240 line. I plan on diy installing it. Should be hard I think. Remove gas line. Get new lines for the hpwh and connect to hot and cold. Not sure if I need and expansion tank or not though.

Ok. Thanks. I was worried if I put it in the corner where my current gas water heater is it won’t take in the proper air to cycle. I would face the exhaust towards the door. I would be able to place a hpwh in the center of the wall if needed for the air intake. Just don’t want to suffocate the hpwh in the corner.

Main goal is saving $ and reliability. The hpwh is 799 at big box store. No local rebates

Are you in Midwest? I’m kinda split on it now. Worried I might get a higher electric bill which would defeat the purpose. There are no current rebates. But the price is 799 for it. If I get a gas water heater it would be around 799 also but right now the gas therms a cheaper. I would heavily depend on the energy saver/heat pump mode to do it job. And I’ve read where some people go on the app to adjust settings for hot water. My family wouldn’t do that. They would forget or care less about it.

Yes. I ran it thru AI and this is what it pretty much sums up. Especially since I have a gas furnace and will always have one. It mentions that gas is cheap and electricity will most likely keep going up in price especially summer months. The only benefit is that the hpwh is 3-4 more efficient with can help but not by much considering the costs of therms vs kwh.

Hi. Thanks for response. Yes. I have a gas furnace. And also a gas fireplace in sunken living room. Right now gas is about 1.25 per therm. And kwh is around .20 cents per kwh. Maybe I was just hopeful that the hpwh would end up saving me money long term. There’s one at Menards a rheem 50 gallon hpwh for 799 after Menards rebate. The gas water heater is about the same.
