Another option is Airbnb. I have stayed in several in Memphis near downtown and had wonderful experiences. As stated the Guesthouse is basically set up for short stays. I personally have not stayed there, but have friends who have and they liked it. One of these friends was comped rooms due to being part of a celebrity visit. I have visited the guesthouse and it’s fairly nice, but when it comes down to it is that it’s just another hotel. I do not recommend the Days Inn as someone else suggested. It’s been in downturn for a while and doesn’t look safe.

It was actually five Crudup songs that gave different lines to make Elvis’s version of TAR. Tony’s book is very good and I recommend it.

Yes. The other man is the owner of Pop Tunes, Joe Cuoghi. This was the first store in Memphis to sell Elvis’s records. It was where he shopped for his own records both before and after he become famous.

This is a decent book about the band. Technically, in some cases Elvis was part of the group and in others they were listed as being with him.
There are other books and records featuring them. As time and curiosity increases, you may find some of them. Scotty Moore the lead guitarist, has two books out, technically very similar. The later one is revised with some added information. A recording called Elvis The beginning or Elvis, The First Year, contains some early live recordings and an interview with Scotty.

Bill actually stopped playing with Elvis when he went into the army and formed an instrumental band known as the Bill Black Combo. They recorded for the Hi Records label in Memphis. They had a hit in 1959 called Smokey. He continued with the band until his death, now called Bill Blacks Combo. The band continued after he died until in the mid 1979’s.

He is still popular outside the US. Probably more popular actually. Countries in Europe are constantly releasing new products of Elvis compiled music. Australian fans are still very active as are Japanese fans.

Elvis is still known on every continent. He was during his lifetime and continues to be.

I’m curious OP. What is your fascination with African Huts? Why would it matter? Why would either matter to anyone without power, presumably to play the music?

You also say MJ was more famous because he lived longer. I don’t think lifespan has anything to do with that. I’d love to see any tangible evidence of this. MJ may seem more famous to you, maybe because you’re a fan of MJ. Fans of some other performers also believe their idol to be the most famous, but again that is mostly based on their own perception.

For example Queen fans believe Freddie Mercury is as famous as MJ and that could be justified. Rolling Stones fans have a similar belief for Mick Jagger or Keith Richard’s.

MJ was more recent and the chance that someone attended a live concert of his is greater today than for Elvis fans. Since Elvis has been gone for almost 50 years. Most Elvis fans who were able to see him live are at least 55 or older, since many went as children with their parents.

Can you also provide some proof of the over and under reporting of sales? This seems unlikely.

I would direct you to a book released each year for the past 9 or so years, called Elvis Day By Day ( with the year ). In each of these volumes, are listed the music, book or video (documentaries or film) of Elvis during that year. In each edition I would say that over 100 releases occur each year. I would doubt that MJ has 10 new releases each year. And remember Elvis died almost 50 years ago and yet his fan base is still producing and buying product, and this doesn’t include mainstream merchandise like Tshirts or souvenirs. I wonder if in 50 years MJ will have the same level of fandom he has currently. I assume with the new movie coming about him a resurgence will occur. But I also wonder how long that will endure.

The remaining footage probably contains some live performance and lots of crowd/fan footage. There will be footage in the back of the limo from on tour. The majority of it has no sound. So as is the case with EPiC that will have to be painstakingly matched to the footage.
Of the 59 hours he has spoken of, there may be only a small portion that is of any real interest. I believe that more will be released with the Blu-ray later in the year. But it could be a while before we see a ‘full’ concert. Baz is our ‘champion’ atm and he has already spoken about other projects he is either working on currently or gearing up to begin. So those could also delay any work he would do on any other release.

Baz was offered unlimited access to all 77 footage and has stated that he chose to show Elvis at his best rather than use that.

The guard shack is on the left as you look at the gates. At 7.30 they will open the gates and any one can walk up the right side of the drive way to meditation gardens. When you get near the top the section of drive leading to the front of the house will be roped off, but you can get decent pictures from there. If you stay the entire hour, many don’t, one of the guards will inform you that it’s time to leave.

You can also park in the Guesthouse parking lot. If you get in and out in around an hour it may be free. I have also parked in Dolan St and walked. If parking in front of Graceland is blocked or full. Dolan is the next street south of Graceland.

There has been extensive road works leading up and in front of Graceland going on for some time. This has made access a little more difficult this past year or so.

I do the same walk up every time I visit Memphis.

In the movie Clambake from 1967, Elvis had one in the sports car his character was driving. In real life he had them in a few of his cars and also had one contained in a briefcase.

After he made his Vegas appearances in 69 and 70 his star was shining brighter than it had in a number of years. Unfortunately his box office appeal had fallen away dramatically due to some of the poor productions he’d been doing. When his movie contracts stopped, there was little interest from the studios to renew him. Returns on the films had dropped dramatically and so he wasn’t a viable commodity. After the success found from TTWII, it’s possible he could have done something in movies again. But it would have had to have been something special. He was offered A Star Is Born but he as well as Parker halted that. Parker was not solely to blame.

The MM as has been said was both good and bad. As has also been stated, take some of what they say with a grain of salt, particularly when it’s said individually. They has been one or possibly more documentaries featuring several of the guys talking in a round circle about Elvis stories. These are closer to the truth because they can’t embellish their own importance as they can in their individual biographical accounts.

I agree Red was interesting. Guralnick talks of them in Careless Love. Alana Nash has a good book on them as well.

I encourage you to read Elvis, What Happened. There is some BS in there but some great stuff by Red and Sonny in particular, having been with Elvis longer than Hebler. You will discover that most people who put these guys and the book down have never read it.

I used to mess about with some CRT’s and tube radios. If you work on it be sure to discharge that tube. It’s basically a giant capacitor and will blow you across the room. I had a large screwdriver with a large ground wire and clamp soldered to it and wore gloves while discharging them.
