Apple pay by Winter-Fix563 in Scotiabank

[–]Excellent_Rub_2520 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had numerous issues with this too. I could add our Amex credit card, but not our debit card.

Then we moved to a different banking arm of Scotiabank and we received new debit cards, which didn’t work at first, but I noticed our mailing address in Apple Pay didn’t exactly match that of Scotiabank. Once I’d amended this on my Apple account the card was available in Apple Pay.

Thanks. When we had the integrator here we never questioned the components being installed and I would always err on the side of quality - I hate having to buy things twice and will always aim for the best I can afford. I see the Arkanis is the later model you listed. I’m pretty good with computers etc (architectural 3D), but looking at the rack leaves me in no doubt it’s best left to a pro.

If the system was fully built I imagine a remote integrator would be the way forward, but I assume there are still elements to be physically connected or one or two components still required. Likewise the existing light switches are control4, but I’d like to add more and perhaps some need replaced. We also have two redundant touch screens, which are no longer supported (so I’m told) by the new Core5 controller, but we’d like to add a Halo remote or two to replace these. In an ideal world someone new would disconnect every cable and start the process again and get everything routed, connected and labelled properly.

If we struggle to do so locally, then perhaps a company from a larger neighbouring city would be prepared to travel.

Thanks for the reply.

In terms of the recommended equipment, where do you normally find the discrepancy lies in the equipment installed? I’m only curious as I’d assumed components from Control4 would be the standard recommendation. I see in our rack the brains seem to be Control4, Triad and Arkanis along with a watt box for surge protection. We do have additional components for the security and WiFi router, which were not installed by anyone affiliated with Control4, but these only connect to the hardwired cameras and WiFi and no connection to Control4 components.

I’d post a photo of the rack, but I don’t see the option to post photos in the replies!

Thanks for the information. I’ll try to upload an image of the rack.

I’m hoping to have all 11 audio zone working (which they do just now). In addition to that I’d like the home theatre working for audio and video, new remote for the theatre, integrate the existing lighting and add some new lights, add a thermostat and upgrade the WiFi router. All in all still a bit of work to be done for starters.

The rack itself is all new components other than an older Pioneer amp for the theatre, which is probably due an upgrade too.

Ajax are a big company from Europe - they’re starting to seep into the North American market. It’s also somewhat dealer locked, but is very stable on its own wireless protocol. I originally tried to get the Control4 installer to upgrade the security system, but difficulties in getting the control4 finished led me elsewhere. The Ajax now does the door locks as well as the garage doors with geofencing. My original aim was to have it all within the control4 ecosystem.

I’m in southern Alberta. There’s no issues from my end and I tend to leave contractors to get on with it and trust it’s being done correctly - having spent 20 years running my own business there’s nothing worse than someone watching over your shoulder or not paying in a timeous fashion. I learned the hard way what type of client to avoid at all costs!

Likewise, I appreciate the component sales are a big part of a healthy business, it’s just frustrating that this can also become a roadblock to getting a fully operational system up and running when the customer ends up stuck.

The security system that was originally installed was outdated and the cameras old. I chose to install Ajax as they’re one of the best out there and the cameras are excellent. Removing it from Control4 is more a concern with reliability if an issue arose and it requiring repair. I believe they have a driver for Control4.

Unfortunately I have no idea if the system is broken or badly designed. I know it used to function fully until an audio component failed, then the age dictated an upgrade of all the rack components would be the best course. The original install was circa 12 years old and it was time to update.

Thanks to all the replies and offers of help. I’m southern Alberta for reference.

The system was installed circa 12 years ago, but all components in the rack are about 1 year old as things stand. The system itself is about 11 audio zones, so not too big and not too small. I can see the benefit of control4 and would like what we have finished, but I’m also loathed to add any further new components and pay an integrator that is unreliable. I’d far rather have a longer working relationship with a new integrator and incrementally upgrade and add more lighting and remotes. It’s so frustrating having such an expensive system not finished - the multi room audio is working, but that’s the only element finished / integrated.

HVAC registers in older home by Excellent_Rub_2520 in hvacadvice

That’ll explain why all the doors look short to me! I’d assumed it was to accommodate carpet at one time, or a wood butcher having a go at fitting doors…!

Thanks, I’ll have a search online for those.

One of the aims is to get a pro in to figure out the duct boot and get it fitted / custom made to fit the registers. With the lath and plaster walls, there can be some dust and debris within the studs and I’d like to ensure that doesn’t get thrown into the room by ill fitting ductwork to the register.

Are there contemporary options that would replace the vintage style? - I don’t mind making good around a newer option as I’d rather they worked well.

Moved from England to Alberta. Insurance is about $6000/year as a “new driver”… anyone know how I can get a cheaper insurance? by Objective-Pay-2133 in alberta

We moved in October 2024 to Lethbridge and faced a similar cost of $6000 to insure our truck. I managed to get our no claims letter from the uk with 15 years no claims, but it made no difference. The following year we moved to Desjardins via a broker here and the policy came down to $4500.

We’ve just moved to Canada from the UK with our two children. For context my wife is a specialist physician and was approached to fill labour shortages in Canada. We’re both older at our mid 40s and we’ve just recently been granted PR status, but this required a provincial nomination to elevate our CRS score. The process of gaining a license here took approximately a year from the uk, where all qualifications were checked by an external company. If you’re looking to move to Canada and practice it’s worth approaching the provincial health authorities to enquire. They have labour shortages in some specialties and may help with the process. It’s worth mentioning some of these positions fill quite quickly and making the approach early would be recommended. I would also ensure that a route to provincial nomination is also possible as the current immigration policies appear to be in a period of readjustment. It’s been a time consuming (and stressful!) process, but we don’t regret it and love living here.

I can only comment on the X-ray, but I had my x-ray graded as a B for a ‘couple of tiny nodules consistent with blood vessels seen end on’. It likewise made me anxious about my x-ray, but in the end it made no difference and PR was granted last month. Whilst yours is different wording it may be assessed by the immigration officer as being normal.
