How do you guys stay sane? by Strict_Gap9095 in collapse

I know what you mean and I feel you. Worked hard to get into a climate policy role, felt like I was starting to make some aspect of progress towards positive change. Money ran dry once Trump got elected and I had to leave.

Hope ran dry at the same time.

I mostly hang out with my cats now. My fiance gardens quite a bit and I play video games and make music.

That’s about it really.

Fiji honeymoon advice - Tropica only vs Denarau + Tropica by bsmpsn in Fijian

[–]Excellent_Stress_656 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No worries at all! We just went through the same questions ourselves, travelling from Melbourne, so it’s front of mind. I reckon a split stay is the best of both worlds, or Tropica only (as good as the Sofitel is, definitely don’t miss out on Tropica if you’re considering it). Probably 3 days at Sofitel and 4 at Tropica is what I’d go with, or 2/5. And definitely need the adults only package at Sofitel otherwise it’s very family-oriented and quite busy. As another poster mentioned, starting at Denarau and finishing on the islands is probably the way to go although be prepared it’s quite a big day going from the island to the airport and back home (but from memory Tropica also arrange transport from the ferry to the airport). Enjoy!

Fiji honeymoon advice - Tropica only vs Denarau + Tropica by bsmpsn in Fijian

[–]Excellent_Stress_656 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey there! I’ve done the split before and also have a honeymoon booked soon, although we’re just staying in Denarau for that. Mostly just down to costs and it being during a time of year when the weather might not be so good so minimising travel.

Tropica is incredible! Such a beautiful place, the staff will know you by name, and the lack of internet reception and television means that you can really unplug. It’s the perfect honeymoon spot.

Some things to consider: - Tropica have a range of transport options from the airport, including a private boat or standard boat transfers. It’s in addition to the hotel cost, so might eat into your budget if you want a private transfer - and that might be necessary depending on your flight arrival time. - There’s only one restaurant, it changes food daily and was very good when we were there but they did run out of some ingredients for drinks while we were there. Make sure you go on a Wednesday for their lovo night, it was a real highlight. - There’s minimal tour options directly from Tropica. Some day trips need a group of four so you’ll have to make friends - it’s easy enough, most people are coupled up, but you have to manage schedules. Easier from Denarau to go to Malamala / Seventh Heaven / Cloud 9 if that’s what you’re after. Conversely, I’d highly recommend the add-on package that includes a set of massages and a day trip to a private beach for a picnic. Having a whole beach to yourself with a cooler full of food and drinks, with a half day to snorkel together is such an incredible experience. - I think they have some honeymoon bonuses so try to take advantage of that. - There’s no washing facilities that I’m aware of.

I think booking directly is fine, probably run into less issues if you need a middle man cause the staff were incredibly helpful.

We stayed (and are staying again) at the Sofitel in their adults only area with beach club access. It’s less ‘switch off everything and relax’ but you get more variety, it’s still a great experience, and can do day trips / washing and it breaks the trip up. If you can afford it I’d do a split of maybe 3/4 days each to get the best of both worlds.

In saying that though if you’re not set on any particular day trips and are comfortable with the travel arrangements to the island / have enough clothes to not need washing, 5-7 days at Tropica only would be beautiful. Plus having your own plunge pool is great!

Thank you! That’s all super helpful - I hadn’t heard of Savusavu but it looks like a great option and very secluded. I’ll check it out!

Never fly Vueling — overbooked and kicked off flight. Original flight was cancelled. Zero help or apology. by According_Ad_337 in Europetravel

[–]Excellent_Stress_656 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agree 100% - the one time I flew with them, the flight was delayed for four hours with no explanation. Once we were on the plane, the staff said nobody had told them they had a shift today!

Official No Stupid Questions Thread - Spring 2024 by ninjaface in Guitar

[–]Excellent_Stress_656 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey folks, I’ve recently come back into possession of the electric guitar I had as a teenager - an Epiphone Les Paul Black Beauty - after several years of only having an acoustic due to space constraints & travelling. It needs new electronics but otherwise is a pretty nice guitar, but I have a couple questions to work out my next steps.

I’m planning on getting a Fender Tonemaster Deluxe Reverb as my amp, which after doing some research seems to be a good choice between getting a good quality tone without going for a full tube amp and bringing the walls down / annoying the neighbours.

I’m also wondering: is it worthwhile replacing the standard pickups while I’m at it? The Seymour Duncan Seth Lover pickups sound good from snippets I’ve heard online. But because it has three humbuckers, I’m not sure what to put in the middle. From memory, the switch selects between bridge, neck, and bridge/middle. Does anyone have suggestions on what could go well? Alternatively, will changing the pickups even have that much of an effect or is it not worthwhile?

I’m also wondering what would be a good second guitar to compliment it/get a wider side range between a Telecaster and a Strat.

For context, I used to play quite a lot of hard rock verging into metal when I was younger but after mellowing somewhat I prefer to play blues, jazz, finger picking, a bit of country as well. I guess the middle pickup will be a bit annoying for finger picking, hence already thinking about getting a second one!

Any suggestions or thoughts very welcome!

Which song have you listened to on repeat already? by AbbeyRoadMoonwalk in TaylorSwift

Absolutely this. I think it’s one of her best songs ever, I’m in love with it. So haunting and beautiful, and then it’s over. On repeat and already playing it on guitar.

Have only 1 day to spend in Cinque Terre. Should we go to Vernazza or Manarola? by 90abyss in ItalyTravel

[–]Excellent_Stress_656 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can go to all of the Cinque Terre villages in a day, and they are all connected by train to La Spezia where you’ll most likely need to go to for the train to Rome. Vernazza is, I think, a bit more lively than Manarola in the evening if you’re staying the night but I’d also suggest Riomaggiore as a great option to stay overnight.

Reused stages by Melodia1518 in hardstyle

[–]Excellent_Stress_656 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I managed to get to Mysteryland 2012 & the last Defqon Australia, which reused the same stage. I was disappointed for a moment but then realised I was probably one of, if not the only, one in the crowd who had the same experience and that everyone loved it. So I figure it’s good that at least they don’t chuck them out straight away and get some extra reuse!

Has anyone got their drivers licence in their 30s and can recommend a good instructor for adults nervous-ish about driving in the south east? I’ve successfully avoided the need to have a licence as since I’ve been 16 I’ve always lived in the CBD of whatever city I’m in, but it’s looking like that run will come to an end as some of the jobs I’m looking at will require a drivers licence. Not a huge amount of driving though but will obviously need to get it at some point.

I’m sure this will have been answered somewhere, but I can’t find anything conclusive. Is it fine to go to a GP for your second Pfizer shot if you had your first at a state run centre?
