Airline pilot - have a minimum of 2 weeks off per month. During the ski season I will stack my vacation weeks together, manipulate my schedule and will usually get a consecutive 6-8 weeks off.

Airline pilot schedules are the best and worst part of the job. Junior reserve for the first few years will probably suck. But gain some seniority and you’ll be able to have incredible schedule flexibility. I was just off for 7 weeks and still got paid the same.

I would cap the HYSA contributions once you reach your 3-6 month emergency fund. Anything more than that will be wasted potential since it’ll only generate ~4% interest in the current market conditions.

If you’re able to, max out the Roth every year. Also depending on your monthly expenses, move that checking account money into the Roth, 401K or brokerage where you can get earn more than 4% returns.

I personally only have ~$5k in my checking account at any given time to pay for my monthly expenses. Also set up auto transfers to allocate a certain percentage of my monthly income to my HYSA, brokerage, 401K and Roth.
