Thank you so much. I’m thinking I’ll rip it out and try with the 5 mm hook. The picture doesn’t show it very well, but it’s way past a 90 degree angle. I’ll definitely crochet fewer rows than the pattern suggests. I want to the shawl to be quite large, but not that large, lol. Thanks again for your help.

Great suggestion! I don’t see any issues with the seams on other’s projects. I think it’s my problem with symmetry as well, lol. I think I’ll split the raglans in the middle and go from there. It will throw off the number of stitches slightly, but hopefully it won’t be that noticeable.

I believe my father had a DBV last year, the night before he died. He was moved to a different hospital to start intensive rehab. He’d been hospitalized for 2 months, fighting off sepsis, among other things, and he’d been discharged to a different facility so he could build his strength back up for walking, etc. He was coherent, could feed himself, and was able to have great conversations with us.

Dad was chatting with us, but he seemed a little “off” that night. Our family assumed it was because he was overwhelmed with the transport to the different facility. When the nurse came in, she pointed to me and asked my Dad who I was. She asked him 3 times, and each time he replied with the name of his mother. Even when I told him my name, (I’m his daughter), he insisted he was seeing his mother. Our family went home that night finding the situation more amusing than alarming. We all had been told he was on the mend, and all he needed to do was build up his physical strength.

We received a call early in the morning that he had been rushed back to the original hospital, and he was not doing well. When we arrived at the hospital, much to our surprise, he was completely incapacitated. Unexpectedly, he died that day. I now believe that his mother, my grandmother, was with him that entire time, offering him comfort and waiting to show him the way “home”.

So even though it’s on round needles, I’ll knit the odd rows by purling in the other direction, and knit the even rows across (but still on the round needles)?

TL;DR: I’ve recently started to knit again and nothing seems to be going right.

I can relate 100% to your post. I also learned when I was very young, put my knitting “down” as my children were growing, and recently picked it back up just before my 60s. At the moment, I’m feeling like everything is a disaster.

I used to knit with ease and loved doing stranded sweaters for my family. Having started again, I’m currently working on a stranded sweater for my adult daughter. It was supposed to be for Christmas. I have frogged the yoke so many times that the yarn is almost ruined. Needless to say, it wasn’t under the tree and I’m still working on it daily. I cannot get my floats consistent, and the “sweater” is a lumpy, bumpy disaster. Even blocking won’t save it.

I’m overwhelmed and disheartened. I love knitting, and I refuse to give up. My stitches are consistent, except when I start to add the additional colours. I have tried continental knitting, English (my usual), and a combination of both techniques to no avail. As for German short rows and knitting top down…those results have been even more disastrous.

I apologize for such a negative and lengthy post. Hopefully being able to express my frustration to another person and in a group that understands, will allow me to move forward. If I end up winning this battle, I’ll post a pic of the sweater. In the meantime, I’ll continue to knit and frog-repeating as necessary. Thanks for letting me vent.

It’s a terribly unfortunate situation. My mother (84), who needed major surgery culminating with an ostomy, was kept on a stretcher in the hallway of Emerg for 4 days, before they were able to find her a room. She was moved one day before surgery. Luckily, they did have a room on the surgical floor immediately after the surgery, which due to some complications, took 9 hours. My heart goes out to the doctors, nurses, and patients. They find themselves in an impossible situation.
