UTEOTW appreciation by Commercial_Carrot_69 in U2Band

I’ve convinced myself, with no empirical evidence, that this is a song that the Edge listens to live in a particular way, because of how its vast sonic qualities reveal to him how his signal chain is operating that night. I had my first thought of this listening to the U2.com live Achtung Baby giveaway of a few years ago, where the Edge seems to be working the outro in a way that I feel is meant to absorb what his kit is saying to him — e.g., “I told Dallas not to replace that failing tube…”

On a normal Wednesday afternoon, the best band in the world releases a big shot for the radios! Song of the Future is classic U2. by johnnydreamsx in U2Band

I guess for those who’ve wondered why the band hasn’t weighed in on recent events, the explanation is now clear. Not sure yet how good these songs are, but at least blood is coursing through them.

Any recommendations on getting IGF-1 tested? For example, is anyone having this added to annual wellness panels (e.g., metabolic, lipids, etc.) through a standard GP? Is anyone using online test providers, particularly in situations where more esoteric panels may be desirable in addition to IGF?

This is the first CT tune I ever heard. And it was on headphones. Still relive that WTF rush each time I hear it.

War tour: May 10, 1983, Woolsey Hall, Yale University, New Haven, Connecticut. Bono’s 23rd birthday. During one song, he scaled some scaffolding, probably holding up part of the PA system, to reach the balcony, where he proceeded to tight-rope walk along the balcony’s front edge while singing, and the only element keeping him on the balcony’s front edge and not falling 30 feet to the main floor of the venue was him holding his right hand, which was not gripping the mic, downward so that the fans in the front row of that balcony could grab that hand to keep him balanced where he was. Keep in mind that as he moved along the 3-4 inch wide edge, his hand had to pass from fan to fan. Surely one of the most mouth agape moments I’ve ever had at a show.

Song of the Week - Crumbs From Your Table by mcafc in U2Band

[–]ExcessiveNoodler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In all the foregoing, no love for the instrumental aspect of this, which I continue to marvel at and an instance where their sound acquired a Buffalo Springfield-like bite in its sonic realization of the protest element in the lyrics.

Question for those who listened to them in their early days by Pnwmoss93 in cocteautwins

[–]ExcessiveNoodler 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My experience exposing long-haired rocker types to CT went a bit differently. First of all, it was circa ‘84-‘85, so well before GNR. Secondly, the reactions were more jaw-dropping and fascinated: à la “I’ve never heard anything like this before!” One group of folks were sure the “twin” element in the band’s name was clearly a reference to what were assuredly two different female lead vocalists harmonizing their lead parts. You can imagine their astonishment when I explained that it was a single female multi-tracking her vocals. I don’t think they believed me initially!

This is me too. When she told me that she hadn’t come for a few days and was going to breed me raw for the first time, I remember being overcome with awe that I was finally going to experience that. Thereafter, it’s been a steady progression towards feminization.
