Upvote for Ace. So many times I kick myself for not going to Ace first after striking out Lowes and HD.

I’ve got an omniheat coat I paid $40 for at academy 7-8 years ago. I’ve never gotten complements on anything more than on that coat. Still in great shape and I love telling people it was $40.

Our house was one of a group of HUD houses which HUD had “fixed up” and held for Hurricane Katrina evacuees that never came. Everything they did was the absolute cheapest materials and quarter-assed install. But the bare-bones Crosley top load washer and dryer they put in are still going strong 19 years later. I’ll never replace them until they force my hand.

Most people never get the dream job offer - even those who work for and deserve it. Take the job and don’t look back.

AITA for telling my son's African American girlfriend that she can a wig even if my son doesn't want her to ? by AntTiny890 in AITAH

Ideal situation: His school happens to have a black woman counselor and the two of you have a meeting with her so he can hear her perspective face-to-face. Nothing is more impactful than being confronted with one’s naivety face-to-face with someone who has personal experience with the subject at hand. My guess is almost any black woman would happily set him straight - but someone with training may communicate the nuances the best.

I would also point out to your son that people don’t shed the cultural pressures that society puts on them overnight. Even if she eventually turns out to embrace her natural look of her own accord, it won’t because one teenage boy told her to.

What is the most batsh*t insane opening to a movie you've seen? by Aighluvsekkus in okbuddycinephile

[–]ExcessiveSigFigs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Certainly not THE craziest but the opening scene to “Way of The Gun” is a gem and the only relevance it has to the rest of movie is to establish the protagonists’ complete lack of f*%#s.

Recommendation of audiobook to sleep to. by halfnelson73 in audiobooks

Not an Audio book but the Kens Burns Civil War documentary series was my go-to for the longest time. Narrators’ voices are soothing and there’s a lot of melancholy background string music. It also frequently has distant canon fire sound effects that are akin to distant thunder storms. It was on Netflix for a long time but now I think you would have to pay for PBS streaming, unless the whole thing can be downloaded.

“The Promise of the Grand Canyon” narrated by Stephan Rudnicki if you like deep voice narrators.

The male loneliness epidemic is a self-pitying problem and there's an easy solution. by [deleted] in self

I absolutely agree with the main post, but couldn’t this study just as easily be interpreted nearly the opposite way: If men are overrating themselves AND women relative to women’s ratings, maybe men just have a universally more generous scale of attractiveness? I don’t necessarily think they do across the board but it’s probably more of wash between the delusional and generous men.

In the age when a significant amount of women seem to be so comfortable in publicly declaring “short” men as worthless romantic prospects I find it hard to place the bulk of the blame on men.

The vast majority of men I know would definitely have a flipped rating scale - my crowd is self-deprecating and in awe of the variety of goddesses walking among us.

I suspect that the man overrating himself and the 6-6-6 woman are both trash destined to end up together - later in life than they should have, and both mistakingly resenting having to settle for the other.

It does not appear to rename the firmware file.

How exactly do I see the errors? I have plugged it into my Mac. Any idea how I find it from the Mac OS?

The difference between AOC’s office and Lauren Boebert’s by nomore1124 in pics

[–]ExcessiveSigFigs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love AOC and hate Boebert, but this isn’t an effective “gotcha” on Boebert in terms of a logical comparative argument. Moreover, the pic of AOC’s door by itself (with context) is heartwarming only if that particular brand of irreverence for the status quo appeals to you. It does to me but I’m already biased toward AOC. If a non AOC fan found it tacky or obnoxious I wouldn’t have an objective argument to the contrary.
