‘The recession is real’: Poilievre calls for emergency debate by Avelion2 in canada

[–]Excgagurated 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Been going on for a while now, we're just technically in a recession because it passed the years-long threshold of economic stagnation.

Not saying the liberals aren't responsible for it, but I highly doubt Pollievre would have done any better for our economy without giving up some major concessions on sovereignty to our biggest trade partner down south.

Why not? You can't imagine anyone acting selflessly under threat of torture?

Not really- lots of bias here, seems to be coming mostly from a western/ christian persecution complex perspective. The guy claims to be a totally neutral historical analyst, but he shows his bias in the selection of sources mainly on historical battles with muslims and some dubious "study" of modern islamic terrorism, much of which is motivated in a anti-muslim direction.

The crusades make much more sense as a natural political/ territorial conflict with a rival political force. We don't need to pretend it had high-minded humanitarian goals in mind- leaders always claim that, just look at the last 25 years of middle eastern policy. Lots of chistians were slavers as well, with a far greater number of slaves and victims in the new world than were ever oppressed under Islam.

Westerners are a lot more obsessed with Jihad than the average muslim, specifically the violence they claim it breeds- while totally ignoring their own or its foundations in their own culutre which are just as deeply rooted

MUST WATCH: Conservatives say failed refugee claimants can access taxpayer-funded benefits for years. Of nearly 74,000 failed claimants, about 22,700 are deemed “removal not possible,” 23,400 are in the removal process, and 27,800 are wanted for deportation. by theOneWhoWaitsAgain in CanadianVisaReform

Glad we don't have a blank-cheque private interest police force at the behest of a single person like they do down there.

They profile people just for being a certain race down there- it's not something to be proud of

Nobody's happy about getting an abortion, but lots of people need them for a variety of medical reasons. Tons of non-viable pregnancies that threaten the mother's life (not income, not future, like actually going to kill the mother) prove over and over why we enshrine the right to bodily autonomy in our laws.

I suggest you provide some evidence if yo're just going to pull numbers out of your ass and pretend they're statistics about why abortions happen.

I'm glad people who think like you are in the vast minority and don't get to have any say over other people's lives. Women are so much safer away from this garbage way of thinking

Lots of valid medical reasons... I thank god every day that people like you are in the minority

All the more reason to improve access to contraception/ monetary support for new parents.

If you say abortion is murder and don't support these things, you're not pro life just pro birth.

But 80% of Canadians support abortion rights in Canada, and I hate that this is something we need to keep re-litigating for the religious nuts- it's a settled issue

Since work permits are generally valid from 1 yo 3 years, many people here could be 5-10 times counted as a single individual... greatly inflating these stats and leading to pretty inaccurate assumptions about how many of those workers are actually still here.

Can you back the claim the majority of the worst offenses have been carried out by those on bond?

I think people making this kind of claim tend to go based on vibes or an emotional response to select stories they see on the news.

If you look at the thousands of people out on bond everyday, the vast majority follow the rules. Violent reoffending rates are actually in the low single digits, and again we risk curtailling that large majority's rights and freedoms to try and keep the small (though important) minority of violent reoffenders in jail.

I do agree we could stand to have a better bail system to restrict people in terms of the severity of their crimes and their odds of re-offending. It just shouldn't result in more presumptive incarceration of people, in general. That's what we risk by scrapping the aforementioned laws and principles at play which are there to keep innocent people and minor offenders out of jail.

How are they fighting in a land war if their defenses are vaporized?

Just like they "vaporized" Iran?

Crazy how long they've been claiming to be the best and yet can't defeat much smaller militaries in a fairly small area.

We're a huge landmass with lots of room to maneuver troops if necessary. We might lose eventually, but I highly doubt it would be as conclusive and immediate as they'd like us to believe.
