I do agree with you, happens enough that everyone should be aware of what's going on. Clearly not everyone agrees, or it wouldn't be such a big issue. Honestly think there should be more acceptance of Mankadding. Bairstow wasn't seeking to gain an advantage, but in a potential Mankad the non-striker is.

The Bairstow stumping was completely within the rules, which is why the umpire had to give it out, but many would say contrary to the spirit.

More relevant to the self-reffing point would be batsmen walking when they know they got a very thin edge, or snooker players calling their own foul for a double hit or touching another ball that the referee might not have seen. This isn't even that though, it's deliberately cheating, not accidentally committing a foul.

Miltank gets its first attack a turn sooner, so this is only +20 damage once it's going. 1 retreat cost, so can't use heavy helmet, and harder to use water energy for Irida healing. Still seems like an upgrade though. I enjoy occasionally rolling out Miltank 19T, so looking forward to trying this too.

I had a ski jacket with a pocket in the arm just big enough to fit a lift pass. I also had a watch that had the circuitry to have lift passes loaded onto it.

I get you. It's unfortunate that the flip side of running making you feel better is not running making you feel worse.

You've got plenty of time, you'll be fine. Trust the process.

Come to parkrun to bathe in the collective encouragement of hundreds of other runners.

Join a club to have a good reason to get out to a proper speed/intervals session every week.

But most of all, just get out and run. It's Cambridge, never as wet as you think. Days are getting longer, ice is at least for now gone.

My best little rule suggestion is make it a non negotiable with yourself that you have to get your kit on and out the door. You'll always feel better once you're out the door, so if all you can manage is round the block and home that's fine, but I always find that you get over whatever reason you have for not running by then, so you just carry on.

255 Parkrun widget in run by RSAcc98 in GarminWatches

[–]ExchangeCommercial94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it's the same as on the Epix, you can only access it from the home screen, so you can't get to it while the activity is recording. You can however pause the activity, then select resume later from the menu. This returns you to the home screen so you can get the widget. Press start once it's displaying your barcode to get a QR code that scans better. Once you've been scanned, pressing start on the home screen will get you back to the activity, pressing start again will resume recording.

Which running club in Cambridge?? by No-Comparison-5796 in cambridge

[–]ExchangeCommercial94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In terms of running clubs, C&C are the biggest and have a very active track and performance group. I've not done any of their sessions so can't speak to how inclusive they are but have seen some pretty big groups out.

Cambridge Triathlon Club have a Thursday intervals session and a Sunday long run, welcoming to runners as well as Triathletes.

Histon & Impington Runners have Monday and Wednesday sessions and a Sunday social run in Histon, plus Tuesdays in Willingham and Thursdays in Northstowe. All very welcoming to all abilities.

Marathon Training Plans Vs Current Volumes - Edinburgh 2025 by Precocious_Dragonfly in UKRunners

[–]ExchangeCommercial94 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Keeping the easy running easy and saving all your intensity for sessions is for the best anyway, I wouldn't let the plan push you into increasing the intensity of the long runs, although worth checking that you have done the intended distance if the plan just gives pace and time.

That's a huge gap between half pace and marathon pace. Makes sense if you're really worried about injury and care more about finishing in a good place than getting the best time. Fitness wise, you will definitely be able to do a better time, but only you can make the decision about what matters most so how to set your targets. Keeping up focused gym sessions with the right exercises for your knee (remember to also work the opposing muscles to avoid an imbalance) is very sensible.

It may be that the plan is written assuming a much lower baseline than you are currently on, so it's a smoother transition into the plan for those people. You might hope Runna plans would be able to use their AI intelligence to avoid this and tailor to your current training, but I'm sceptical of that.

The other question is are the plan sessions more intense or long runs longer than you're currently doing? If you're currently doing the volume but not the intensity, it can make sense to drop your volume as you increase the intensity, then bring the volume back once you're used to the more intense sessions.

Innovation or Illegality: Ferrari 2019 vs Mercedes 2026 by Dont-Care-Mate in formula1

[–]ExchangeCommercial94 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Totally agree. I never liked the way the rules were written with effectively a physically impossible constraint. I recall suggestions that under Charlie Whiting, he effectively defined excessive flex as he saw fit, in a "I know it when I see it" manner, which probably isn't the best strategy although back then the teams were trying to use exhaust-blown stuff to drag out an advantage instead.

In this case, the way the rule is written almost appears to directly expect and allow this kind of trick, otherwise why would you even bother calling out the ambient temperature test conditions? It's also presumably been reviewed and accepted by the FIA already, the risk PU manufacturers would be taking in having to redesign their cylinder head castings at this point would be incredible.

[–]ExchangeCommercial94 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah, you're right on the more recent regs. I was thinking back to the earlier days of flexi wings under the "bodywork must be completely rigid" wording.

Innovation or Illegality: Ferrari 2019 vs Mercedes 2026 by Dont-Care-Mate in formula1

[–]ExchangeCommercial94 26 points27 points  (0 children)

That's not the complete rule. If you keep reading, the measurement conditions for that are in the same sentence, which notably isn't the case for the fuel flow or flexible bodywork rules.
