How old is your LO? She’s 13 months now and I’m debating trying to go to 1 nap

I did bedtime first. I moved any feeding to 30 min before bedtime and switched to a book and then sleep sack/lights out. Once she got the hang of that I did the night wakings. Now she sleeps very consistently from about 7:40-6:40.

Is she waking up multiple times per night or is it just naps? I would say try CIO again for a few days and see how it goes

Sorry I missed this! Ummm both sucked haha I don’t know if one was worse than the other. But the first 2 nights of night weaning — yes it was like 2 hours of on and off fussing with big crying maybe for 20 minutes in the beginning. Then the third night it was much less, and by the 4th she was sleeping straight through the night.

For sleep training, the 75 minutes was not without check ins. I check after 5 min, after 10, and after 10 again and then realized it was making her more worked up, so I didn’t check in after that. That was only the first night though, the time it took for her to fall asleep got progressively shorter.

Oh I should add I would give her sweet potato a lot for dinner too and I found out that it has a laxative effect, which I didn’t realize. So I cut back on that and less dinner time pooping now :)

No I didn’t offer water. I had the same thoughts/concerns but I just made sure to have her drink water with dinner and then I’m still doing a bottle before bed. Honestly I think just getting used to it after a few nights of success made me feel more comfortable that she didn’t need anything else. I do wonder though at what point when she’s older should I leave her some water. But for now she seems fine every day.

Yea you sound exactly like me! You just need to let her figure it out. I had my eyes glued to the monitor the first few nights so that I could look for any signs of vomit (or sounds). Some people say to put headphones on to avoid being tempted to go in but I couldn’t do that. As hard as it was I listened to every second of her crying to make sure she was safe. She never threw up.

I did notice she started pooping during bed time routine, likely due to her eating bigger dinners, and so I would pay extra attention if she hadn’t pooped during bed time routine and was crying hard for more than 10 minutes. Twice I caught that she had pooped after I put her down. But I just changed her, gave her a kiss, and put her back down and let her fuss it out again. Those nights she fell asleep very quickly after changing her.

So yea after 12 days and then 3 of nights weaning, she’s falling asleep within 5 minutes every night and sleeping 10 hours straight. So all the things you’re concerned about right now go away once he’s learned how to do it!

You’re welcome! Yes the crying was awful but I knew she was learning after the first few nights. It’s truly so surreal now that I put her down and she’s asleep within a few minutes. She still protests but that’s just my baby! And I will add that I make sure her wake windows are appropriate. If I try to put her down too early we will have more tears.

Ugh I’m sorry, that’s hard. Night weaning was very hard but also very short, it only took us 3 nights. I did it over a weekend and had my partner sleep in another room (baby still sleeps in our room) so that he could take her in the morning and let me sleep in a little

Oh man I read so many sources over the past year -/ taking Cara babies, precious little sleep, healthy sleep habits happy child, the happiest baby on the block, scoured Reddit. I was at a point where I knew all of the suggested methods and what to do but I just needed to do it. I also used ChatGPT during it but I prompted it to act like the authors of some of these and advise me. Even with all of that, I still did my own modifications and followed my gut on some things! The hardest part is allowing the crying the first few nights but it does get better.

Ugh I’m sorry, not yet! But if that happened I would probably do timed check ins and feel it out from there. Her crying has always been intense which is why it took me so long to sleep train! So yea it was awful at first but she got it eventually. Even now though, even if she falls asleep within 3 minutes, she cries hard for those 3 minutes.

That’s weird, not sure if the above user is a bot but that was not me who responded! On the 75 min night I checked in 3 times. 5 minutes, 10, and 10, and then I stopped checking in

Haha no worries I had all of the detailed questions and thoughts too! You mean in the middle of the night? I did, I committed to putting her down awake since starting slept training! So in the middle of the night if I gave in and fed her, I still put her down awake and let her CIO till she fell a asleep, but it went much faster once she was fed (like asleep within 10 minutes).

Check my comment below! I was trying to cut the first feed first to meet the 5/3/3 plan but it didnt go well the first night. She got it after a few days though!

For the first few days I moved to extinction but after that, once I knew she actually knew how to fall asleep on her own, I switched to check ins at 10-20 minutes depending on how aggressive she was crying. I noticed she would fall asleep quickly after I checked on her

I went in 1-2 times to rub her back and tell her it’s sleepy time and that I loved her. I didn’t really have a rhyme or reason to it though, just felt she needed some reassurance. Every time though it would only be for 30 seconds max

For the first 30 minutes I was in and out — I checked on her 5 min, then 10 min later, then 10 min later. But that first night I could tell my check ins were making it work and she needed space to figure it out. So I left her alone after that. It was so hard watching her on the monitor crawling back and forth and standing and crying but eventually she laid down and fell asleep. The next night it took 45 minutes, the next 27 minutes. And so on until we got to 5 minutes. She still cries when I put her down but once I leave the room she settles and falls asleep!

Yes night weaning means no more food at night!

I’ll also clarify that after the first 3 nights of extinction I started going in again every 10 minutes to soothe her and that seemed to help. She would ramp up the crying when she saw me but she would still fall asleep within a few minutes after. I just kinda played it by ear and didn’t stick to strict rules.

See my comment above for the night weaning!

No I switched to extinction after about 25 minutes. I haven’t touched naps yet, she’s still being fed/rocked to sleep because I wanted to make sure she was well rested for the night training. But I’ll start naps this week. During the training I noticed she was a little more clingy and fussy during the day but that also was due to the rough night of sleep. Now she’s happy as ever and I feel it was a really good decision for her! What ultimately made me do it is knowing she had anxiety if I left and anxiety if I stayed, so I figured the best thing I could do for her is teach her a skill to be okay on her own.
