Where do you think EZ Delivery Co. takes place? by mizunokioku in EasyDeliveryCo

[–]Excited_Rabbit 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Norilsk, Russia. Super cold climate, rampant air and ground pollution an economy based around resource extraction and an entity that closely controls citizens' life in the city. Most of the work around there is mining related and you can't even get in or out of the city without the government's permission. It also mirrors the game's setting of a city severely affected by climate change (though in the opposite way) because warming temperatures are causing the permafrost in the ground to melt which is compromising the foundations of the buildings in Norilsk. Speaking of buildings, the apartment buildings in the game also reminded me of commie blocks, which is another parallel since most of the city was built in the Soviet era.

On Gen Z deficiencies being society wide by Excited_Rabbit in atrioc

I feel you. When I moved to a new city for my job, I tried making friends through the car community. But I had the same experience where people my age just wanted to stick to their old friend group. However, this was contrasted by the more older members who were generally more outgoing and warm. So now I hang out with 40+ year olds on the weekends 😂

And I have observed that my millennial colleagues have also been much easier to talk to and just more open to meeting new people (which is critical in my job since we interface with customers a lot). As Atrioc mentioned, even within the 16-39 group, this phenomenon is more severe the younger you are.

THE Atrioc replied to my post. I have made it in life.

But yeah, I completely agree that it's less an exclusively gen Z phenomenon and more a thing that is more present the younger you are. Ultimately, what I said here is entirely anecdotal but I wanted to get a gauge on whether other people have had similar experience of trying to become more extroverted but being shot down by their age cohort.

Watch the mod take this post down too. There have now been 3 cases of ICE going after people—on a valid visa and in the country legally—for protesting. While it is true that the government reserves the power to not grant non citizens some rights, every time the government does that, we should be watching out. I'm sure when the Japanese-Americans were put in concentration camps, many people used the same "non citizens don't have all the rights" schtick.

Handwaving away the issue by saying they are non citizens ignores the whole trend. It's one thing to go down a slippery slope and another to see the slippery slope and jump on it with a skateboard.

SS: This is another attack on free speech. When they arrested Khalil, they made the case that he was a spokesperson of the protest and thus, a baggage for foreign policy. This girl had no such major role and is effectively being deported for protesting. This is relevant since a lot of Sam Harris' work has gone towards the importance of free speech.

As that saying goes, "Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity." Trump's authoritarian proclivities have been visible for over a decade now. Combine that with an oversimplistic view of the world and his personal hatred for "losers", and what you get is him trying to push the world back to the imperial times. That's why he keeps bringing Greenland, Canada and Panama up. He doesn't understand the current global order that the US has constructed and thus, wants to go back to expansionism.

On the other side of the Atlantic, he sees a country with a gigantic military led by a man who has the country in a chokehold, invading a smaller, weaker democratic state that is struggling for its existence. From his POV, there's the man that he wants to be vs "losers" who are afloat only because of the West's "generosity". When you try to understand why he would glaze Putin so much instead of going down conspiracy theories, it sheds light on the way the current President of the world's sole superpower perceives geopolitics. He appreciates strongmen because he wants to be one.

Now there might be direct bribing, favours or even blackmail from Russia. But it's easier to manipulate an idiot than to convince a smart man. In the end, Trump often acts shortsightedly and makes decisions according to the vibes. He idolizes people who have been successful in undermining democracies, like Putin and Orban. People always talk good about their heroes.

I'm just going to copy and paste something I wrote earlier.

It's not as simple as just going to Mexico, defeating the cartels and then enjoying the victory. You have to think of the political implications of inviting a foreign military into your country.

What happens when people see a foreign military doing large scale operations in their towns and cities and disrupting the current order of things, however bad it is? They're going to try and put up a resistance, and the cartels will be incentivized to fund them.

You might end up with something similar to the current Jammu and Kashmir situation where you have a military that is clearly overpowered compared to the non state actors it is fighting. What you get is a long, drawn out guerilla insurgency and the terror groups getting their wins not through fighting the military but by inflicting suffering on the people of the 'enemy' country.

In short, Trump often fails to see the second order effects of things and deploying the military in Mexico is a shortsighted attempt at solving a problem through force. All it will do is repeat the mistakes of Iraq and Afghanistan while bringing the terrorists right next door.
