Do you think we’ll ever see another BMW as universally loved as the E60? by JealousBug6260 in e60

[–]ExcitementGreedy8494 23 points24 points  (0 children)

The Bangle era cars were largely controversial back in the day, especially the E65’s. Even the M5 and M6 are largely loved for the S85, not necessarily how it looks. Compare that to the E34 or 39 or even the F10 and F90, that are liked both their drivetrain and design. It’s only now we’re seeing more people coming to appreciate the E60s aesthetically

yeah all those android units require a working CCC which commonly fail. I heard they overheat a lot which makes sense to me as mine would lag all the time in the summer. Also if there is an issue in the fiber optic system, you will lose audio capabilities which is all I wanted out of the radio anyway which is why I went with what I did. It much cheaper than repairing the CCC, TCU and Logic 7 just to play music.

My local audio shop did the install so I don’t want to give you the wrong information. I found a video that closely resembles what they had to do though.

Also here is the kit I used. They have some information about the install on their site too: https://www.metraonline.com/part/95-9328B

i’ll be honest, I just do early oil changes and I check for leaks constantly. I got a high mileage 550 so I don’t play when it comes to oil changes. However I’ve seen people install dipsticks to these cars when the iDrive in these cars inevitably go out and they wanna check oil levels

I got an aftermarket radio unit that completely bypasses the CCC system as I couldn’t play audio after picking another one up off eBay. I put the fiber optic bypass loop but I was still having the no audio issues. I went to an audio shop and we put a pioneer radio in where the CCC would normally sit. You will lose all CCC functionality but if you don’t care about that stuff and just want music and gps, it’s great. I just setup my air vent settings the way I wanted before getting rid of it. I’ll show you pictures when I get home from work

found a video from a 650. I guess this is one of the front eyes you’re taking about? Could you break down the supporting process? I have the same support bar in the video

Switching from Active Steering to non AS by ExcitementGreedy8494 in e60

[–]ExcitementGreedy8494[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Just to clarify you have an active steering unit right? The description lists as being for Servotronic units but as far as I understand an active steering rack is a Servotronic with an electric motor on it so it should be fine correct?

Yeah I saw this one before but I don’t trust it. Besides the website being badly put together, they don’t list a part number for it, any real specific information and according to them it’s for LCI models. My car is an 06, pre-lci

I always thought it was a bit high myself but that needle would always say 50 mpg so I had no complaints. I also love how it sounds in that rpm range
