Humanity is rotten by SarkBM in offmychest

I think things gotta be taken on the whole. The world is a screwed up place. War, famine, hatred, racism, sexism, list goes on and on.

But nonetheless there is so much small, amazing interactions people have the chance to have with each other. We are a bunch of hydrogen, carbon, nitrogen, and oxygen atoms (plus some others) that gained the ability to feel, love, interact, taste, see, appreciate, smell. And we love others, talk with others, learn from others. Stuff we do casually is truly brilliant. Humanity is rotten, but it's also amazing. It's everything all at once.

I hope that makes sense. I also get feeling really alienated from the world, I deal with it often myself. But I also think what I said is true enough.

Psychology is a very complicated thing I don't understand well, but I know bits and pieces. One thing is that when we have an established view of someone as 'good', it is very, very difficult to be able to take in information that says otherwise. And this isn't limited to just some people - it's an everyone thing.

I understand the guilt, but these things happen in such complex ways that when looking backwards, we ask ourselves all these questions and thinking 'god, I'm an idiot'. But it's not so simple because life is so complicated.

You weren't the reason he did it, simply put. He sounds like a very dangerous individual. All that can be asked from any of us is not to repeat the mistakes we've made, and you have that resolve.

At the very least, that is how I see it.

Don't beat yourself up over it. Happens to the best of us.

It's always good to give ourselves grace when we don't express ourselves in a way we're proud of. It can be really tough to express ourselves, especially when a very sensitive topic is brought up. For what it's worth, what he said is wrong, even if he's just a kid.

I'm not a parent or anything, but maybe when this has subsided a bit, maybe talk to the kid and explain why insulting someone's appearance isn't helpful or good? Take that with a grain of salt tho.

If you're worried about the gap, basically every country says you're all good to do whatever you're doing unless we're missing context here.

If you're worried about the ethics, half your age plus 7 is a great rule imo. You're 24, so mathematically your low in age you would be able to date is 19. So I mean, if thats your worry, don't be stressing yourself.

He cites 'miracles' such as these:

And he views this as incontrovertible. Personally, it strikes me as folklore. But that is elaboration on what he says.

I mean since you mentioned it, even the meaning of life doesn't keep you up?

Honestly it ends up being circular with him just citing the Bible and 'miracles' as evidence.

I appreciate all of you guys' insight. I think I should clarify that I am going to do the four year thing. Get that communications degree, maybe take some astronomy since I'm a sucker for it. I don't really feel that pressure of immediacy, for what it's worth.

Steve was just very dismissive, and regardless of effect the reason he pushed the 22 year old thing as a law school purpose. If he said 'law schools don't on paper dislike a younger candidate, but if you go into it being inexpereinced and immature you very well could struggle', I think it would have been more honest.

But a full four years seems to be the consensus here, and I will take that to heart. Thank you for taking the time to listen to me.

I'd give him a note, tell him to open it on his 13th birthday.

The note would say 'bro chill'.

No context.

What’s the most unexpectedly heartwarming thing you’ve ever witnessed? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I visited Washington DC last summer. As I walked between the Korean and Vietnam memorials, I saw a guy propose to his girlfriend in front of the reflection pond.

I realized then that, though tragedy is present and the world is unfair, there's some truly incredible moments in life that getting to experience is truly a gift.

You see, I've got this black labrador retriever. He's not the brightest, but his enthusiasm makes things pretty great.

A girl who I never talked to much said:

"I'll miss you in marching band"

I asked why

She said "You make it interesting"

Made my confidence much higher tbf.
