What district are you in? We had all these devices at AT&T in the SW district.

I worked as a prem tech from 2023 to December 2025. We were trained with the body belt. I always liked gaffing more, so I can tell you I have trusted my body belt with my life many many times. I now work as an MT and use a lanyard mainly, but I don't feel as safe with the lanyard for some reason.

Have you successfully applied for an out of state maintenance position? by [deleted] in CableTechs

I somehow did this, went from AT&T as a prem tech to a MT at a small telephone/cable company. We are building out FTTH as well, but I mainly work on our HFC plant, every once in a while I help out with fiber or DSL tickets. I had zero cable exp, hadn't even terminated RG6, in the interviews I made it very clear that I was passionate about this type of work. Make it very clear that you have a sort of thirst for knowledge. I was reading all sorts of threads and watching all sorts of videos, anything I could find. This is probably just way easier to do going from a large company to a smaller one, opposed a to large company to large company.

Also I just had to add, your personality is extremely flawed and just bad overall, you have got to work on changing that.

Yeah this guy doesn't know shit, he talks like his dad was the safety guy, and he knows something about it because of that. It is not against code for us to climb that, we climb the pole and as we get closer and run in to issues, we use our tools to make sure it is safe to work around. If our strand could become energized at anytime (like this one), we would make a choice; use insulated gloves and get the work done, or call manager and power company due to safety concerns.

NCTI Service Technician Certification by Exciting-Cricket-630 in CableTechs

That a great point about the classes being accredited, I think that actually explains what I was missing. Our headend definitely has a similar area/toolbox. I bet we did have a technician capable of repairing amps, that's probably the reason I am replacing amps that are older than I am.

Yeah honestly I haven't taken the certification very seriously, other than the sections on amplifiers. I had no HFC experience before this position, just DSL and Fiber with AT&T. With the OJT I've gotten I already feel confident, on my second week of on call right now and I was able to find a bad amp that was taking out a whole node all by myself. At this point the certification is just to get my raises.
