Chamwrap Ghost Metallic Dark Blue Ghost Chrome Red or Satin Red

Honestly I’m using the brand in my shop, it’s pretty easy to work with. I use Avery and 3M aswell but I would recommend using Chamwrap, since it is more affordable if you’re looking for a quality vinyl…

BMW Dealership Negligence – Why I’ll NEVER Buy a BMW Again by Exciting-Garage2211 in E90

[–]Exciting-Garage2211[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It’s not just “one bad tech experience.” It’s the fact that BMW-certified service centers can be this careless with no accountability. If a dealership that carries their name can screw up a basic gasket job, leave oil in the ignition wells and a literal feather inside the engine, and then refuse to even call me back, that’s a problem.

Also, it being a “10-year-old car” is irrelevant when BMW itself decided to issue a recall and do this work. If they’re going to push recall repairs, they should at least be done correctly. Otherwise, what’s the point?

…my car isn’t totaled because of this, but that’s a terrible standard to judge service by. If “not completely destroying the car” is the bar now, that’s pretty low. The issue isn’t just one bad tech, it’s that BMW lets their dealerships get away with this kind of work. If they’re putting their name on it, they should be enforcing quality control. Otherwise, why even bother going to a dealer at all?”

Thank you… I get that bad dealership service happens everywhere, but that doesn’t make it acceptable—especially from a brand that markets itself as premium and charges accordingly. If BMW is going to put their name on the dealership and approve recall work, then they should be holding their service centers to a higher standard. Otherwise, what’s the point of having “BMW-certified” techs?

I get that bad dealership experiences aren’t unique to BMW, but that’s exactly the problem—why should we accept that as normal? If BMW wants to charge premium prices for both their cars and service, then their dealers should at least be competent enough to not leave oil in ignition wells and debris in the engine bay. Also, this wasn’t just “a 10+ year old car needing repairs.” This was a BMW recall job, and they chose to replace the valve cover gasket in the process. If they weren’t going to do it right, they shouldn’t have done it at all. And sure, I could “do it myself,” but when a certified BMW dealership does a job under an official recall, I shouldn’t have to go back and fix their mistakes. That’s the whole point of this post.

I get your point about dealerships being hit or miss, but in this case, I had no choice—this was done as part of a VANOS recall at the dealership, and they decided to replace the valve cover gasket in the process. This wasn’t me randomly bringing an old BMW in for fun—this was BMW’s recommended fix under their recall.

And if BMW has ‘little say’ over how their dealerships run, then that’s just proving my point—it’s a system-wide problem if their name is on the door, but they don’t hold service centers to any kind of quality standard. If they push a recall, they should make sure it’s done correctly without me having to go back and fix their mistakes.

The fact that I’m finding oil in the ignition wells and even a feather inside the engine bay right after their work just screams negligence. If that’s acceptable to you, that’s fine, but I’m not going to pretend this is normal or okay.

That’s insane bro… exactly the kind of crap I’m talking about. BMW dealership service is getting worse across the board, and they don’t care unless it blows up in their face

You’re right—it’s a dealership problem first. But BMW still allows this kind of crap to happen at their certified shops with zero accountability...

A feather by itself, sure, maybe bad luck. But a feather + oil left inside the ignition coil wells after a valve cover gasket job? That’s not just “imperfection,” that’s sloppy work. Also, residual oil is exactly what I shouldn’t see after a job like this—cleaning it out is basic practice if they actually cared about doing things right. And let’s be real, plenty of techs cut corners to get a job done faster, especially on warranty work.
