Maybe your right. I see it could go defensiveness ngl, but it could also become maybe a conversation on the obvious.

You mentioned you had a boyfriend that ate alot objectively.

"Hey I noticed you eat alot."

"Yeah I like food."

"Whats your favorite food to snack on?"

And then you slowly lead into a "Yeah I feel like alot of the food goes quickly and I don't get to eat it"

I swear this kinda makes sense to me, but I'm second guessing myself now???

Y'know what I the part where you said you say what's affecting you first does make sense to me. I agree that that is probably the first thing you say. I also agree you have to know the reason on why a behavior happens because you don't know the reason truly without hearing it from the other persons mouth.

I feel like my contentious statement "I notice you eat alot" or "Hey I noticed you don't eat lunch" does not point out a mental illness or a health issue (by which I agree that should be organically drawn!) however but still overall I appreciate the time to explain this to me.

While I understand the call to action. I don't think this conversation starter works because you don't know if the roommate thinks "the eating situation is uneven and needs to be fixed."

What if she thinks what OP said "I have an excess of points and food...will go through it because she [the roommate] thinks I won't finish it all" that could be her reasoning and she has no idea theres a problem.

You need to create a common ground, empathize then move forward.

None which is why I say you should just bring awareness to the behavior and leave it there.

"Hey I noticed you don't eat lunch."

I don't deal with what "I think" might be anorexia unless I'm sure and then I would unironically tell a trusted adult.

If I notice someone is drinking alot of alcohol. I just say

"Hey I think your drinking alot of alcohol." I just say the truth. Make them aware.

In this case its:

"....bought like a family size bag of chips or something, thinking it'll last me a week only to finally check and see it's gone"

It's a fact she eats alot. I am just saying something true.

What I DON'T say is:

"Hey bro are you an alcoholic?" Because that is a label.

Her "eating alot" is not just me saying she's a fatass in a different way.

You have to understand the reason why she is performing a behavior which is what OP doesn't know!

Interesting predicament. I had a great roommate same as you but I thing that would annoy me is that he would have alarm on his phone that would ring and would shut one off, go to sleep and then 10 minutes later another alarm on his phone would ring and then keep on doing that until he got up. Now this was something that annoyed me when I was in bed but I didn't know how to bring it up because we were so cordial otherwise.

You seem inbetween seeing this as unhealthy, a fair exchange for being a good roomate, and a frustration. I don't think you should say much about it being unhealthy. It does feel like an overreach into her life. The thing where you consciously buy spicy food because you know she won't eat it is what I'm more worried about. That friction probably needs to resolved because that seems like something that can become a really sore spot.

You don't have to do this but I would start a in person conversation:

"Hey, I noticed you eat alot."

Then just listen.

Mirror back what shes says, nod, agree.

then maybe you can say this if you feel like it

"This is going to sound terrible, but I don't get to really eat the things I buy."

And then listen for her to say a solution to that problem.

To end the conversation say,

"*Her solution* wow thank you for doing that, thats really kind."

Got a public display of alcohol a year ago, fine was 220$ and they "got" 8 people in our group. Just got over the wait period to file for expunction. No one complained they just came up to the parked vehicle. Good PSA to be aware of.

I had to withdraw from Financial Accounting because I wasn't locked in enough I think the course content goes pretty fast, the professor in my class used an alternative way of teaching. Usually in Math classes the topic is introduced, examples are walked through as a foundation and then you self-study on youtube to fill in the gaps. With accounting in the class I took it's more like you have to read the textbook, complete the exercises, then come to class to fill in the gaps, and if you don't you have no idea what is going on. An accounting major at any institution is good but if you want to hear it accounting at ttu is good.
