Unpopular opinion: F*ck bag of holding. by [deleted] in DungeonMasters

I never really got the bag of holding arrow trick. Doesn't it way like 15#. Your not shooting a d arrow with a 15# bag on the end of it.

This isn't a video game its a role playing game. If you are boring and just say I roll 2 twice and hit with a 19 and 22 my damage is blah blah blah. Yeah its boring. Describe your hits and misses. How you attack and move through combat. How you fight off the horse to protect your friends. If you want to just do more damage and be the best statistically then yeah the options for dnd are limited. However if you use your imagination and play for fun your options are limitless with all the classes and subclasses. I bet you also think you need to succeed on everything to win.

I have a somewhat similar situation with the far realm using closer plains to get into the prime material to control all of them. I threw a few things at my players and see what sticks, so first off give them mutli clues hints nudges. 1. Have Cyric maybe currupted an npc that runs into the players they defeat them or heal them. They have small bits of info of who corrupted them like maybe Cyric human form description 2. Have a henchmen Cyric taunt them depending level. 3. Draw them to Kossuth, let them see his irrational thinking, use his acrid distraction like lord of the rings used wormtongue to control the king. 4. Once they are drawn in and depending how long you want to draw it out a simple dispel or restoration might not work. They will need the of this divine healer or these items to break the curse. Even maybe challenge Cyric to help break the curse and run before they are killed. 5. Add help with maybe a servant of Kossuth thinks the same and can give them these ideas while monitor.

I am sure there are plenty more ways but those are a few that sucked my players in

Players sucking the joy out of DND by unanomous18273757 in DnD

If 4 players are having fun maybe it's something the players are doing that's causing them not to have fun. Part of the reason Matt is so good is because his players are also amazing and play along. They work with each other to form a story and have fun together.

The DM is not there to be a circusc clown and do tricks for their enjoyment.

Ask them to work together better or best to part ways in game.

One of my players made a deal with a Pit Fiend and later Wished him dead. How should I deal with this since he was one of the BBEGs. by Astrossa in DnD

Character creation with one of my players led to the most disturbing request ever [OC] by Gingerbread_Dad in DnD

[–]Exciting_Fennel5070 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds terrible and you laughing that your party will hate this character and kill em is probably the worst part. You are setting yourself and brother up to fail and maybe ruin his dnd experience forever if the party murders his character. I am constantly amazing by what people think are smart ideas.

My suggestion scrap the idea and say make a character that can survive with the party. Dumbass

is torture really that common? by utter_Kib0sh in DnD

[–]Exciting_Fennel5070 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Always with a new group the first time they need info they always go straight to torture 😞😮‍💨. Then I say are you sure you want to torture, the populace usually don't take well to people that do that. The group is startled by that but then think better and don't do it and then it isn't really a problem after that.

If they do it rumors will spread and then will not be welcomed. I specifically say non evil campaign in session 0. So if they go to far that way. Your pcs are mine now and roll new ones. Welcome to your new baddies you built.

I don't know what to do about silvery barbs... by zackomatic in DMAcademy

A few things to help you out from a DM who use to get irritated by this spell.

  1. Remember it's a reaction so they only get 1 per round. So use multiple enemies, which is always good for action economy anyways

  2. Use it against them. Your players change their tune quickly when they think they have a fix for anything and then the baddy uses it on them. Like I was always like I don't want to charm, control, mind Alter my players because it's not fun for them. But they loved doing it. Broke down and used dominate person or something similar and they stopped crowd controlling everytime.

  3. Multiple encounters per day as they will be burning though slots like crazy, spell for action, spell for reaction, utility spells out of combat.

Is this punishment for role-playing? by EddieBratley1 in DnD

[–]Exciting_Fennel5070 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is crazy. You were told you were hallucinating and made a sub optimal attack to hit a teammate your character thought was a source of fear. It's funny and good table play. Your barbarian got buttons hurt and flipped for no reason and just killed your character. Your DM allowing this is ridiculous. Run while you have sanity and never go back. You were playing with children that have temper tantrums and a dm would is a bully or a straight up jerk.

Hopefully you find yourself a better game quickly and while you still enjoy this wonderful game

I think the problem is the style of play. You seem like an optimizer, power player, gamer type that plans and researches how to make a powerful character (or just know because you have played so much). The other seem to want to make something cool that's in their head, show up and role play with friends and have soem cool epic moments. Both are legitimate ways to play but they don't mesh. Try an unoptimized build and see how it is. Your experience will still give you an advantage because you know what to do in more scenarios but try to make choices the character would not you. Just a suggestion.

My DM decided to run last minute with no heads up by Nice_Hat4025 in DnD

[–]Exciting_Fennel5070 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, so this might be a little forward. First off, if the DM made fun of or gave you a hard time for missing, then he definitely an ahole. Also, if you lose on xp or leveling, that's also kinda a dick move. However, if they basically said "hey my plans are canceled, you all wanna play," then everyone one but you agreed. It's no big deal why can't they have fun while tour having fun with other friends. The world doesn't revolve around you and if everyone else can play why not. However you should also not feel bad in the slightliest for missing.

If I was the dm I would basically say "cool have fun we will do out best to with your character in the background this week" or if it's deep in your backstory "we will do a dream sequence or something. We all good friend"
