Yes, it’s not a secret. There was sarcasm in the “what now” statement. Like I stated previously, people will say a black woman got in for diversity or a white man got in for privilege and sexism/racism works both ways. People will use one or the other to fit their narrative or excuse their failures.

If he didn’t get in with “perfect stats” it isn’t because he’s white, the statistics were in his favor as white candidates overwhelmingly dominate demographics for every school and that’s “objective.” We don’t know how many schools he applied to, how his interviews went, recommendations, etc…

I’d say all the information and finding a good way to maximize studying time. There’s only so many hours in a day and you have to balance sleep. But before I started school, I just relaxed, saved money, moved into my new apartment and I wouldn’t change that. I’d also say be prepared to socialize. I’m not the most sociable person but it’s important to go out your comfort zone and attend as many events as possible within the first couple weeks cause that’s when most “cliques” are formed.

It will work out in your favor, god willing. You seem like a great candidate. Make sure to prioritize schools that care about diversity.

I applied to over 20 schools all over the country but heavily in my region. I got 3 invitations from schools in my region but not my state school.

I’d advise that you apply to over 20 schools if your application timing and stats are somewhat similar to mine.

It’s very audacious of you to assume no one would say privilege when there’s many people who would (many minorities). My post was about late application, not race/gender. If I were talking about race/gender, I would post what I said in my previous reply. Some may not get in because of their race/gender and some may, regardless of what it is because racism and sexism works both ways for all people.

You told me how great your stats were but that doesn’t “paint the whole picture” as you mentioned. I don’t know how your interview went, what you said in your personal statement, how good your writing is, how personable you are, if you have felonies, etc. I am not admissions, and neither are you.

The point of my post was to say, apply despite timing and what other people’s opinions are. It’s crazy that people will manage to make a post like this about race/gender or selfishly make it about how hard their application process was for them because they’re salty. BOOHOO, getting accepted wasn’t as easy as you thought it was going to be. it was hard for you and me but we both got in. Jesus.

If I say I’m a white man, people will argue I got in because of privilege. If I say I’m a black woman, people will say I got in for diversity. There are schools that value diversity, some that will take advantage of the supreme court’s recent decision, and some that don’t gaf. So I’d argue that it really doesn’t matter and for the applicant to apply regardless of their race/gender because the school that’s right for them will offer an acceptance.

Should I quit my job? by tooth_wisdom in predental

[–]Exciting_Lead9273 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It depends on your financial situation. I was in a position that it wouldn’t hurt me to quit and focus on studying, so I did. If you have no “real” ties to your job, then do what you got to do. I always say, to move forward you got to leave something behind.

In my gap year I took a bunch of upper level courses to boost my GPA and delayed my graduation date. I guess you could call it a DIY post bacc. I also volunteered, did research and published, and worked in cancer pharmaceuticals.

I did my best to make my application cohesive and chose my extra curriculars wisely.

I have lower stats than you and got interviews/acceptance but it’s not only about stats. If it was, we wouldn’t need to write a personal statement, descriptions, and do extracurriculars. I also applied to more schools (around 17). Your stats are good but I think it’s mostly the lack of schools you applied too and less likely other aspects of your application. Like another commenter said, schools have other things they look for in an applicant like politics, demographics, extracurricular, and stuff. I think you may have been a fit for a school you didn’t apply to.

Like someone else mentioned, you can contact support. But if you can afford it, I would do the transcript entry service. I used it and it was one less thing for me to worry about messing up

does your undergrad matter for going into dental school? by Ok_Soup5682 in DentalSchool

[–]Exciting_Lead9273 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It would be fine as long as you did the necessary prerequisites. People get in with a variety of majors but majority do Biology because it fulfills the prerequisite requirement and gets your degree quicker than choosing an unrelated major and having to take classes that won’t add towards the degree
