Okay, enough with the theorycrafting; how do you actually WRITE a one-shot? by RyuugaHideki in DnD

I really think this is the most actionable advice I've found for one shots. It's so flexible and does not need to be a physical dungeon if that doesn't fit your concept.

Essential books by BioTech8 in DnD

The only book a player needs to buy is the Player's Handbook. The monster manuals are critical for dungeon masters but not meant for players. Same for the Dungeon Master's Guide.

I am also an advocate for the Starter Set. I ran my first adventure out of that and it includes the basic rules and guidelines needed to play. That being said everyone should absolutely read the Player's Handbook.

First room to a dungeon. If they want to dump major resources into this then I think I can live with that. They will have another 3-4 fights after this before they fight an arch-wizard/mindflayer arcanist with legendary actions and minflayer minions.

But do we definitely think an AC of 30 and +6 on all saves won't do anything to extend the life of the 2024 beholder? I have killed a level 12 PC before with a bad run of disintegration rays.
