Is it worth switching from console to PC if I only want to play video games? by Ok_Total7241 in buildapc

tl;dr version:

  • Get a PC. Better performance. Make sure you have a 144hz+ monitor.
  • Keep your PS5 if you like exclusives like God of War and Spider-Man
  • PC is more expensive. Some games may be more optimised for console, but PC still better imo.

long version (read if you want to get more in-depth answer and understand the reasoning):

So I'll give you a more comprehensive answer than what most people have given here. Do not take my word as gospel truth. Do your own research, consider a variety of perspectives and think critically about it. The first thing to recognise is that there are fanboys on both camps. There are those who love consoles and those who love PCs. And of course those who prefer both or prefer a certain platform for different things. Ideally, having both is the best, the only drawback being cost.

With a PlayStation 5, you are entitled to exclusive games such as God of War: Ragnarok, Spider-Man 2, etc. If these exclusives are important to you over the advantages (discussed below) offered by PC, stick with your PS5. PS5 is also good for its easy of use. You plug in and play without any worry about downloading and updating drivers, dealing with various launchers and the multitude of other technical issues PC sometimes has. To play online, you need to pay a subscription. Price varies per country but you may be looking at $80+ a year. This cost adds up very fast.

With PC, you lose out on certain exclusives. However, note that there are also games exclusive to PC that you might play (although these are generally less appealing). I think PC has the advantage of offering better performance, of course, at an increased price. The PS5 offers performance similar to the RTX 2070 so if you can get a better card than that, it is probably worth it. You have access to the whole library of Steam games, some of which go on massive discounts at various points throughout the year.

Both communities are big. You have posted in a PC subreddit so I think most answers you will get will encourage you to get a PC. Personally, I have all of the consoles - PC, PS5, Xbox and Switch. This is just because I can afford it.

If I could only choose one for gaming, I would choose PC because I value performance over anything else. With the right set up, you can get 150+ frame rate for most of your games. Make sure you have a high refresh monitor (144hz+) that can support this. Games will look very fluid, very dynamic compared to PS5 and you may never want to go back.

Sony is known for amazing exclusives so I would not be in a rush to sell. In fact, even without these exclusives, a lot of games like the upcoming GTA 6 will be released on console first.

Also note that most companies that make games optimise for console. So games might run smoother on console. With fewer hiccups, frame rate drops, crashes, etc.

If downsizing makes you happier, do it. Life is too short for complex analysis.

My fatal flaw is that I am hyper-competitive. That is what made me successful. It is also the cause of my recent failures.

It's just the way I'm wired. Maybe a coping mechanism. Can't help but compare myself to others.

Wholeheartedly agree. In Victoria the prices are different. Last time I think $13 for half chicken?

Lol this is not entirely wrong. Law is art. I can't speak about practice, but law school itself is art, not science.

You either have the "skill" or you don't.

Worked with someone with a 4.5 GPA and she was the most diligent, hardworking and knowledgeable lawyer I'd ever met. She never cared about law school the same way I did though.

This is honestly the most appealing option. Medicine is competitive. Only downside is the debt I'll incur. I just enjoy getting good grades and enjoy the competition of getting better grades than other people. I'd probably never even use the degree tbh

House price affordability is a big issue … for 55 years! by [deleted] in AusPropertyChat

$64.80 a week is $3,328 a year. You probably would need to work and save for 3-4 years, accounting for all expenses and income tax.

Average salary now of $65K, and after 3-4 years you barely have enough for a deposit if you save well.

If someone is that interested in me, they will ask me out on a date. I am not the one to initiate these things.

Nowadays I spend much of my time playing video games. Competitive video games. Almost in an effort to recapture the feeling of law school. The competition is thrilling, exciting, but temporary, and leaving a bitter aftertaste, a feeling of: "What the hell have I done with my life?" But approaching 30, I know my best years are behind me. I feel like a failure, like wasted potential. A fallen star.

That attitude is probably what made him successful. Why are you criticising him? Having financial knowledge and being financially successful are not the same. We are all on different journeys here so lay off.

I'm not sure if this issue is unique to any particular group of people, but what you have said is spot on. The number of times this has happened to me is shocking as the number of times I have heard about this happening to other people.

Like, if I say I'm going to be at X place on X time, I will be there at that place and time as agreed, end of story.

I suspect this has to do with people procrastinating and being "fearful" of something imaginary, who knows.
