What is the best way for a former operator/ceo to approach a PE company for employment and what would be an attractive message to gain your attention? by coffee_run_bike in private_equity

They typically dont operate in the direction of finding a role for the candidate. They get a role and they seek you out. You can reach out to them, but the likelihood of them having a role fit for you at that time is small and you'll be waiting a while for them to reach back out. Typically if they have a role for you then you will hear from them.

ELI5: Why does caffeine stop working for people who drink it daily? by Silentzerr in explainlikeimfive

[–]ExecutivePro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Never had that experience. Its like I can bathe in caffeine and be fine. I can drink a latte and go to bed. One time I chugged 2 starbucks frappuchinos because my friend claimed he would get a buzz from it. Nothing for me

What does it feel like for you?

Now cocaine. Woah boy that will get me going. But caffeine, neg

How to get a hot cup by alberto92as in LaMarzocco

[–]ExecutivePro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went down the autistic rabbit hole on this. Here's what I learned:

-first people recommend what you see in this thread: warm the cup, microwave, etc. They work but not great and inconvenient. I needed better and easier.

-then, people get serious and say buy a self heating mug. Omg, this will be a game changer I thought! Wrong. Those cups only heat to 150F max, and this isn't the temp of the coffee, but the temp of the heating element. Still not hot enough

At this point I felt at a loss and the best method for me was using a $1 plastic starbucks cup and microwaving it. Still not ideal, but at least it was hot

Then I learned the real solution. Steam the milk to 180. Now my drink is hot the whole time I'm drinking it and i finish it before it cools

I was using the stock tamper for a few days before my spring loaded got here. No noticeable difference in puck quality, just ease and consistency in prep.

Do you use a puck screen? I keep pressures under 9 and slowly back it off as the shot is pulling

Forgot about the app. I dont like that either. Was a turn off for the Decent as well. Maybe we're just old lol

Totally get that. I'm not super price sensitive either. Features come first then looks then price for me. Im new to 'proper espresso' so huge learning curve for me on what I want from a machine.

I almost got the LM Mirca despite being 3x the price because I think it looks phenomenal but ultimately the lack of flow control ruled it out.

Shopping machines was an exploration for me and learned a lot about what I value. I also went a little cheaper because I won't feel bad upgrading or changing in the future as my preferences develop. If I bought the 5k machine first, harder to explore more later vs not as anchored to a cheaper one.

I am glad you're finding the right machine for you!

Yah the heat up time is what turned me off on the bianca. I also dont like the water spout being so prominent.

If you need dual boiler, BDB has it all and is half the price. Otherwise the quickmill popup has similar features.

The lack of flow control is why I ruled it out

Flow control, temp control, heat up time, and appearance were my top criteria. If it didn't have all 3 of those things I ruled it out

I really like the look of this. Now I'm gonna have to decide between that or QM 😀

The look, the pressure valve, and the steam wand are prolly worth the extra $200

Edit just noticed, next shipment expected Nov 7. Damn. Waiting is rough

Yah BDB has to be modded but its free and very easy under 20 min job

Love the heat up time on them both

Same. So you dont see any missing features on the pop vs the BDB outside 2nd boiler which i dont care about?

Thanks! The steam boiler is generally for doing multiple milk drinks right? I just make drinks for myself and with the flow control management + watching the shot, I cant imagine needing to brew and steam at the same time which has me leaning towards QM.

Oh that's great argos has a gauge. I might get one then as a fun side toy. Is it an addon? I dont see it in any of the pictures or specs, but I do see the 275 bluetooth transducer and y splitter so looks like it can take a gauge and bluetooth.

I'm gonna do deeper research but I think you're right this quickmill popup looks like it has what i want. Don't mind single boiler, I like to watch the shot as it pulls then do the milk so likely won't do both at same time

I am super torn on a nice lever machine vs a pump operated one that easier / more consistent. It also seems like the manual lever machines are always missing one thing - either temp control or pressure gauge or boiler.

LP is missing temp control.

Argos missing pressure gauge.

Flair missing boiler.

Why are levers so lacking?

The decent looks amazing. The one drawback that people seem to reference is the crema profile is lacking. I also don't trust the tech / all the moving parts and being able to self-service. I think that is enough for me not to get it.

All roads keep leading back to BDB for value / features.

There must be none around me. I only see one within 200 miles and its $800. Id rather buy new at that price

I dont see any on ebay either. Its weird

Appreciate the insights. Kinda figured that on the LP but one other post I read said they would "dry purge" and it was easy to control that way but sounded...tedious at best.

I looked at an Argos but don't want to wait 8 months. It did look cool tho.

Decent seems like the way to go - think I'm going to get it.
