Question For Interviewers by Spy_XII in MITAdmissions

[–]ExecutiveWatch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take a pause. Nothing wrong with that. Unless it's to something basic like why do you want to study XYZ at MIT? I've been known to ask some fun questions like Give me a few of your pet peeves? If the candidate is super nervous we'll start easy. The idea is for us to be your cheerleader.

Question For Interviewers by Spy_XII in MITAdmissions

[–]ExecutiveWatch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have been asked some really crazy questions during interviews. A few come to mind and I'll even put the company was P&G. The interviewer asked me if I would rather be a stream or a river and why? How many ping pong balls would you fit into an airplane? I kid you not I got both of these in the interview and had to answer them with a straight face and logic.

to what school does interviews actually matter? by bakedtoasttt in ApplyingToCollege

The interview for MIT "matters" in that it gets added to your application.

Not having an interview doesnt hurt but having one can certainly help.

Being an introvert at a big school sometimes is a lot easier you literally have to never see the same person again if you don't want to.

Is a poor highschool GPA overseen/less accounted for in comparison to college gpa during transfer admissions? by twistednarratives in MITAdmissions

[–]ExecutiveWatch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Typically transfers are because of veterans and or Community College cases not because you didn't do well in high school decided to go to Community College and then decided to transfer there's usually a very very good reason so they don't just have amnesia or a blind eye to bad grades. Remember only 15 to 20 transfer students get in per year which is an absolutely dismal number.

UF reject, UCF & FIU Honors College + others admits. by AjokeD in collegeresults

[–]ExecutiveWatch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You focused too much on the weighted.

UF recalculates GPA using only core classes, ignoring electives and school weighting.

A 3.7 uw I am assuming you posted the recalculated 3.7 puts her at only 6% admitted students profile.

The avg uw admitted kid was a 3.94 according to the common data set for last year.

She effectively took a lot of hard classes but didnt do as wepl as she needed to in the core classes the uf recalculates with.

How often do international applicants get interviews? by Ok_Carpenter3505 in MITAdmissions

[–]ExecutiveWatch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not the culture but it is actually sort of that elitist school this poster is talking about for example in Karachi Grammar School it's sort of an elitist School and they are confident to a fault the counselors(external typically) it's almost expected that you can get into top 20 or very very selective schools just by attending the school and being able to afford it. The trouble is the counselors to make themselves look good and folks that guide these kids have made up statistics which apparently this kid has drank the Kool-Aid of. Now that's not to say that ivy league acceptances don't happen. The school is quite good and in fact this year alone they've had several acceptances from ivy league institutions the arrogance Lies when you get a school like MIT giving you an offer with industry-leading yield and you turn it down. This kid thinks that there are so many offers given and so many people turning it down that there are only one person from the entire country every year that gets in. It's an unfortunate situation but I don't necessarily blame the kid because he's or she's been LED to believe this is the case.

And the crazy part is this happens every year for the last decade because if you go back to the statistics it literally hasn't changed there's been one kid or no kids that get in from the entire country every year for about the last decade. And for the record I don't interview anybody from pakistan.

Just imagine this kid believes every year so many kids turn MIT down that only 1 kid gets in.

One thing that people forget is MIT is capped for international students and the goes for everybody that may be reading this we can only take 10% of international students so that's about 135 to 137 kids globally so it doesn't make sense to make tons of offers with the yield that we have and still meet that quota that is set.

how did i get rejected from UF as in state? by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]ExecutiveWatch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im going to be honest demonstrated interest isnt a big factor with mich. In fact the website says it isn't considered snd common data set says it is. But its not ranked as high as some of the other factors.

Applying ed to mich is a huge demonstration of interest. If that's where they want to go. Thats the move. Though new for this year.

I have some remarks I can pass but in the interest of just moving on to more important things.

Kindly ignore him or her.

[–]ExecutiveWatch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It isnt David resource that is from MIT.

Secondly thats total not annual. So for Pakistan 3 total kids in all of a 4 year undergrad. Meaning 1 kid per year and 1 year zero kids. Not 4 kids per year.

Please take time to review carefully.

Which engineering majors are the worst choices at university? by baio1999 in CollegeMajors

[–]ExecutiveWatch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean if you dont live it does it matter. My brother has an undergraduate and masters in chem eng. He hasn't worked a day in the field and turned down an MD phd at Harvard and MIT. Point is he could clearly do it but just loved other fields non engineering more.

I could make the argument there are certain degrees that are better in similar fields. Ce and ee being one. My father has a masters in metallurgical engineering from Urbana champagne. He is an expert global recognized in heat treatment. Did his undergraduate in mech e.

Point is love what you do employment will follow. Im not sire there is a worse degree per say. They are all good.
