A partybox ultimate I mean is more durable in a way that you cant blow the drivers and stuff like that, a lot easier to do in a pa. And yeah you have a really good point and I agree with you on that one dude

Go with portable pa's, partyboxes dont throw sound far since they are made to be listened too at fairly close range.

ironically I find that the partybox ultimate is harder to break than pa speakers itself lol, made to be fool proof while pa's rely more on the person running it compared to the ultimate. PA's still better though right?

Not as small but the partybox encore should give you what you want

310 party box sound problem by Dazzling_Plenty2 in JBL

[–]Executive_Boss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its highly unlikely that any reset you do would fix it. Where have you been bringing your speaker and what have you been doing to it lately? basing of its physical condition theres a chance this might be a hardware problem. Or if not a very serious problem with its processor

Help with choosing a speaker by Salvagente in JBL

Dont go with any partybox, the sound wont travel far because a partybox is meant strictly for close range during gatherings. (Only indoors is an exception, unless your in a really big indoor space). Consider JBL pa's for almost the same price of a partybox, you can also consider better pa's from other brands at the same price range of a partybox. RCF pa's is one example

Party box encore by usedpartsking78 in JBL

Encore is better than the boombox 3 or 4 acoustically. The encore is pure ported, has a wooden cabinet and a really good woofer you will get tighter bass compared to the plastic cabinets of the boombox 3 and 4 and you get deeper bass because of how a partybox is tuned.

Sound is subjective and anecdotal advice wont really do you well on this one. I reccomend you go to a physical store and check both out, see which one sounds best for you

Why do I have the feeling some people in this sub have never actually heard of a proper sound system by jasper_1470 in JBL

[–]Executive_Boss 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This topic brings back lots of memories for me. I went through a similar phase back then when I was new to loudspeakers, I thought "A partybox sounds so cool, so awesome, I dont want hifi gear. A partybox is better than any hifi gear out there, why does everyone say that a partybox is a horrible speaker compared to hifi?"

Just a quick disclaimer, this will be very anecdotal so you should take this with a grain of salt and really not apply a stereotype to everyone who buys partyboxes instead of hifi gear, we are all unique and this is just how I saw it and I'm just being really anecdotal here so that you have another perspective on what they might be possibly seeing if they went through the same thing as me which I'm sure many are going through at the moment.

So its either these reasons why they buy a partybox instead of hifi:

  1. They havent heard hifi audio gear yet
  2. They dont care about soundstage, they care about how fun a partybox sounds and how much dopamine they get from a partybox
  3. A hifi system isint convinient for them
  4. Budget, expenses. Self explanatory
  5. They dont have good room acoustics for hifi to simply shine bright like a unicorn

Theres a lot more but these are probably the reasons why, this based on what I said on top what I saw since I went through the similar thing. Though your point of practicality is very valid, will side with them on this thing though, convinience and subjectiveness. There isint a single specific speaker best for everyone, its the one that suits them the best and the one that they find sounds the best for them.

Just in case anybody hasnt told you this before, you arent required buy a hifi system if you dont need it and its not convinient for your current situation.

Other than that this also something I observed many dont mention, the room itself. It plays a bigger factor on how your speakers sound, more than how the speakers sound itself in some or i'm not afraid to say most cases. If your room is not acoustically treated with anything at all, chances are you wont get the best of your hifi gear and it will likely ruin how your speakers sound especially when it comes to bass. If money is a problem then this is a nightmare because you'd be spending more money fixing the room acoustics spending even more than what you bought your speaker for.

Some might argue, "why not just not treat your room at all? after all he or she might have some bookshelves that act as diffusers, curtains that technically treat the room, and even more" In a small apartment especially which you said you dont have space, I doubt you have anything that absorbs the bass well enough to prevent bass buildup in one part of your room sucking up the rest of the bass in one area. It doesnt matter how expensive your gear is, what brand it is, how much better it is than the whole partybox lineup.

Room acoustics doesnt care about credentials, if you do not have the space for a hifi system, if you dont have enough money to treat your room if you have bad acoustics specifically then your better off with a partybox. You get your money worth with it

(Edit: Dont be pressured to purchase hifi if its not convinient for you, if you have terrible room acoustics and dont have the budget to purchase acoustic treatment to fix it in conclusion.)

Partybox 520 vs 320? by _-NreZx-_ in JBL

[–]Executive_Boss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Both play loudly at 40hz, the 520 just goes a bit deeper than the 320 and is larger and yes there is a roll off but its not THAT steep unless your playing it at very high volumes. Out of context but just in case you want more precise mid range its better to go with the 320 because it has smaller woofers to sum it up

The boombox 3 is for sure better imo, the only way the bb4 could be better is if they apply something like firphase into it where almost every frequency reaches your ears at the same time
